G502 vs G402

ShadowCaptain

Ok, mg G500 is annoying me, I think its going faulty, it already had acceleration issues but now it lags around and the cursor feels drunk

I am going to use it at work as the 50p mouse at work is shit and the G500 works enough for it to be useful there

Since all of my peripherals are logitech it makes sense to me aesthetically to stay with the brand....

I play a variety of games and use productivity software (adobe CC) but my main thing is FPS gaming

So, Should I get the G502 now? Or wait and get the G402, price is irrelevant?

Is there anything better I should consider (price is not a factor at all)

Just FYI the 502 is in my amazon basket ready to go and is my first choice, but maybe you can convince me otherwise?

It might be

g402 is budget, no braided cable.

I noticed those things (though the mouse goes in a bungee and is cable tied away so I dont really care

but I know it has this new accelerometer prediction engine. Apparently its the sensor from the G100 which is fantastic but has this prediction feature for low sensitivity gamers

My 2 thoughts are

1) does the G502 loose tracking at high speeds

2) the does g402 have any innacuracies switching between sensor tech

I guess nobody really knows the answers

I think the g502 is the one, I dont want to jump in blind like I did with the G500 and regret it

How about the Func MS-3 r2??

It has a very nice ergonomic design and really thought out button placement. The braided cable is nice and Linus has already done a review on it as well as the rest of Func's peripheral lineup.

The MS-3 r2 review starts at 1:00 and ends 3:32.

I wouldn't think so, though if you are concerned about that than you really should try and find a hand comparison, or maybe you could go to your local tech/gaming store and see if they have one you could try out.

No problem, another mouse that is fairly identical to it is the Mionix Naos 7000, though I personally like the Func design and extra ergonomic buttons.

Voted G402. That one seems to work well for me (if I ever had a chance to afford it)

The G502 has a similar size and shape to the G500s (unlike the Func that was mentioned by DIV1D3), so if you like the size and shape of your old mouse the 502 is going to suit you well in that regard.

The sensor is much improved on the 502 over the 500s. Being optical it has absolutely no acceleration by default, so the issues you were having there will be eliminated.

Obviously no consumer knows whether the G402 has any issues switching between its regular sensor and the accelerometer, but Logitech says that the transition from one to the other is seemless (which is pretty much what you'd expect a company to say about one of their products).

Yeah this is what I was thinking

PCPer have a video of the logitech and it looks good, but Im not sure how the G402 and G502 differ really, they both have similar layout, buttons and optical sensors,

I will probably just get the 502 as I can buy it now

One major difference (major in my opinion, you may not care) between the two is that the G502 has the option of switching the scroll wheel between a click-to-click and free scroll. The 402 has eliminated this feature.

EDIT: also the 502 wheel tilts, the 402's doesn't.

Do you use the tilt function of the scroll wheel on your G500?

Nope, maybe used it like twice

I have a 27" 1440p screen so sideways scrolling is rare

So you don't use basically any of the extra things that the G502 has over the G402. The only thing you have to decide now is whether or not you can wait for the 402, which IMO would be the better mouse for you.

Get G502 if you really need all the extra features (such as extra buttons & tilt wheel). The G402 is lighter so that is something to consider. They are roughly equal in performance specs-wise and the shape is almost identical. It all comes down to are you prepared to spend more money on the extras of G502.

If you want to take a look at some other mice with "flawless" optical sensors with what I suppose have palm grip design, then there are CM Storm Alcor, SteelSeries Rival/Kana, Mionix Naos 7000, Zowie AM/FK/EC and Roccat Kone XTD Optical/Pure Optical.

There's another difference that I've just realised thanks to @Verne. The 502 has an adjustable weight system, whereas the 402 does not.

That is good if you want a heavy mouse. I believe even with all weights removes, the G502 will still be heavier than G402.

I will have to trust your word on that, I couldn't really be bothered going back to the product pages for each for the fourth or fifth time tonight.

According to Logitech.com, G502 is 168 grams (and each of the five weights is 3.6 grams) and G402 is 144 grams. The weights are with cable included.
