A raspberry pi with retroshell frontend (not sure what the emulators are) in a case in which they can't make up their mind about.

They cost about $97 for a single player package and $110 for a two player package.

This is pretty herp.

There are many clone consoles and even official ones you can find for reasonable prices. It'd be more neat if it had an original shell instead of using the SNES one. while the SNES is one of my all time fav consoles, the Pi is tiny and if we're going to emulate anyway, this is way too bulky for that purpose.

I scrolled down and saw the mini thing, that is actually pretty cute and I want it.

IMO the Raspberry Pi doesn't have enough power to run some more modern emulators. If I got an empty NES shell I'd make something like this but with one of those Android dev boards or RK3188 sticks instead.

Handhelds have no problem running emulators to play SNES and Genesis titles. I doubt the Pi will have trouble so long as the emulation is within reason.

the Pi model B is too underpowerd imo...

I was using a friend's Pi for a presentation and it was too slow for my tastes...

It might be able to handle some of the older games, but they'd need to optimize the OS for something like that...

Yeah but I doubt the Pi can handle the PSX and N64 emulators I play on Android. My RK3188 Android TV stick can run them perfectly, however even my Galaxy Nexus struggles with N64 emulation, I doubt the Pi could do it.

But why don't we just do this ourselves?  Heck, I don't even need a case, I just want a reason to use a Rpi and play NES games

Cause people like convenience, people just want something to plug and play that looks nice and doesn't need to be dinkered around with (like some other front ends).

So... An ouya? xD

I don't think it's targeted to be an Ouya, it had only a goal of $2800 and has only limited amount of consoles available (probably hand-made, not by machines considering the price and availability)

this is the best idea I've heard in a while I just don't understand the kickstarter it seems to me that the project of making this yourself is half the fun. but damn I wonna do this. I'll go look for components right away.

HOLY BALONEY a full set SNES with all the bells and whistles goes for 50-90€ on ebay, not bad Nintendo you held up a reputation. Well have to get a broken one then.

I mean, that's really cool and all, but for the same price (or even less) you could just do this yourself...

The whole point of a Pi is to do DIY projects with it...

That comic sans tho...
