So I've come to the conclusion, though i'm not entirely sure its the right one, that I need a router. Currently I have the combo modem/router that my ISP provided but I've noticed that once 3 devices or more are simultaneously connected wirelessly, at least one of the devices seems to either lose connection or gets really slow speeds. The solution I've found to this is to simply disconnect and then reconnect to the access point but thats gotten more and more annoying over time. The combo router has a throughput of 54Mbps, something which to my understanding maybe what is limiting how many devices can be simultaneously connected and using the internet at once. Also its a crappy combo router provided by the ISP so theres that. Would getting a new router fix this issue? Ive been looking into getting an ASUS RT56U so any pointers or suggestions about it or other routers would be appreciated. Thanks

Get rid of that isp provided router. Dont let them use your house power for there public wifi they dont pay you. Im also convinced there not safe. The netgear and dlink we install in customers house are the exact ones u buy at best buy/staples/ncix/ect its only a cable co proprietary firmware and software firewall between public private no extra physical antennas and same connection to one modem. Which in our system is separate modem router since npt every one gets a free router. Also for a while the custome firmware slowed down the routers wireless speed.

Im in CA and my budget is about $100 which is why I've been looking at the asus rt56u but as I stated before any suggestions are welcome.

Asus is a reliable brand, it is more suitable for home networks, if we add a little budget, I would recommend you Huawei b880 or e5175, their speed will meet your requirements completely.
