Also, are you sure you have the correct drivers installed?

  1. Dump whatever Asus audio drivers you already have in ADD/REMOVE programs.
  2. Download DriverSweeper: http://phyxion.net/item/driver-sweeper.html
  3. Run in safemode
  4. Check off ASUS audio
  5. Analyze and clean
  6. Turn off pc
  7. Physically remove the card
  8. Put the card back in
  9. Restart normal
  10. Install the latest drivers from this site: http://ca.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=FiWODUF4uhiJVJKD
  11. Install as Admin
  12. Don't give up

Hey guys,

About 2/3 years ago I bought an Asus XOnar DG PCI sound card to power my speakers (My current motherboard doesnt support 5.1) and I've had problem after problem with it. These range from not being able to install drivers at all, to fuzzy sound, random freezes and it has gotten so bad now I literally cant use my computer with sound (Whether I want to or not). I have been documenting all errors and souloutions I have tried, and I really hope you guys can help me out! Thanks in advance, -Alex.

PS: Here is the document with everything in it.

Problems:

Refuse to load drivers on Windows boot, no sound until I restart
If I load the control pannel, no device found
Sometimes sound randomly cuts out
Sometimes windows completely freezes
Sometimes the sound playback is fuzzy, other times is clear
Cant use GX mode

Fixes tried:
Happened across multiple installs of windows
Changed graphics card, still happens
Reinstalled drivers multiple times
Tried both versions of drivers on Asus website
Disabled on board audio

Reinstalling drivers:
    Uninstalling original:
Uninstalled with Revo Uninstaller - Uninstall failed, invalid uninstall command.
Using windows programs/features uninstaller - Uninstalls, restarts.
Analyze with CCleaner, remove all found, nothing related to Asus audio drivers.
Scan registry for issues with CCleaner, fix all.
        Restart again.
    Installing new:
Download Version 7.0.8.1821 WHQL Driver, 2013/04/18 update
Run set up from the PCI-DG-130418-7.0.8.1821(win7-QR) folder, as admin
Doesnt work, prompts me to install Asus XOner DG audio device.
Reboot to safe mode with networking.
Re run setup, same as before.
Go into 'Win7' dir, run setup from within there.
        Same error, no device found.
Delete Version 7.0.8.1821 WHQL Driver, 2013/04/18 from computer.
        Download Version 7.12.8.1794, 2011/10/31 Update.
        Extract RAR to desktop.
        Run setup.exe as admin.
Same issue as before, no matter how much I click re try.
        Reboot windows into 'normal' mode.
        Run setup.exe as admin.
        Same issue.

I have tried the Uni Xoner DG drivers, same issues past the install stage.
Currently not using any drivers, so I have no sound on my computer.

I hope the formatting is ok, if not let me know and I'll edit the post.

Try these drivers. Asus havn't updated the drivers for their sound cards for a while, so some other people got together and began making their own. I have the same card btw OP. If these drivers don't fix your issues, then it's a hardware issue, not software.

Download the "UNi Xonar 1814/1815 v1.64 r2 " - it's the latest stable release.

Shot through the heart and you're to blame, 30fps and i'll pirate your game - Bon Jovi

Take me down to the console city where the games are blurry and the frames are thirty - Guns N' Roses

Arguing with religious people is like explaining to your mother that online games can't be paused...

This sounds stupid but im not really sure to be honest, the most prolific problem is the lack of drivers, but hopefully Fulgrims post helps with that :)

Edit:

Nope, still getting the same 'Device not found' error message :( The device was an OEM when I bought it so I doubt I have any warranty, even if it would of been for 3 years. Do you think I should invest in a new sound card?

Have you checked to make sure everything is plugged in properly? Also, are you sure your PSU can power everything in your system. Lastly, are all the right drivers installed?

Every cable in or out of my pc is seated correctly, even went around and checked just now. I have a 750W Power supply, my builds pretty low end and can get away with a 430W PSU so it's good there. Can't actually install any audio drivers without getting the 'No device found' message, safe mode or not.

Does your sound card show up as an Unknown Device under Device Manager or not at all?

I'm pretty sure it's this multimedia Audio Controller:

Can you go to the "Details" tab and go to Hardware IDs and copy everything there into this forum? That will allow me to identify what that device is

Ok it can be a few things. It's either the card itself being faulty, the card not getting power, it isn't plugged into the correct PCI-E slot, your PCI-E slot is faulty. Can you check if it's one of those first before I continue my list

Thanks, seems to fix all problems! Still need to wait to see about freezing though. I may have a faulty PCI slot on my motherboard, which would suck.

I beleive this because when I reseated the card, I moved the PCI slot it was in. See pictures below:

Before:

 After:

I also de-dusted it a bit and changed my CPU from a push-pull to a push config, noticable sound level change :)

And yes, there is clearance between the heatsink and sound card!
