Laptop Recommendations for Artist

Commander Llama
Go to solution Solved by ZetZet,

Dell XPS 15. Won't be able to afford the QHD version though :(

I have a friend who needs a mobile solution for a lot of 2D art work, and while I certainly have a few recommendations for him already, as many of the middlling gaming-grade/multimedia laptops would excel at this task, I'm not an artist myself and my pickiness for panel types is just about non-existent.

Budget: $1600 CAD MAX (incl. taxes and/or shipping)

Aim:

- Heavy Photoshop and/or other 2D drawing programs plus regular desktop use

- Excellent screen (good colours!  1080p or greater resolution)

- 15.6" or larger screen, smaller ultrabooks need not apply

- Windows 7/8

- Battery life is always appreciated but non-essential.  The laptop will likely be used in places with plugs.

- NOT for gaming... is a goal...

I might have to say a macbook air/pro or a dell xps 15. Most moderate to high quality ultrabooks should do what you're asking :)

Oops, I forgot to mention Windows 7 or 8 too, I don't think he's interested in learning a new OS.  I've forwarded the Dell XPS 15 option to him, but I also recommended him some heavier, beefier models (MSI GT70, Asus G750NK, any Asus ROGs that fit his budget) and let him decide if he wants mobile workhorse vs. lighter but adequate.

Thanks @ZetZet and @IcedEskimo!
