Do you feel that the GTX 770 will be a sufficient card for my purposes?

RA2

I'm pairing it with the FX-8320, and I want to know if the card will be fine for 1080p High/Ultra at a 60 frame rate for games. I don't do too much outside of gaming, so will it be fine, or is it overkill?

Building my first build.

BUILD:

FX-8320, 8GB DDR3-1600 Corsair, GTX 770 or R9 290 (still undecided), Cooler Master TC-102 case.

Maybe not max settings, but most recent games will run at 60fps at high settings for a while. It's a very good card. If you want MAX settings and 60+ FPS look at a 290x or 780.

I love StarCraft

Should be fine. Won't be Ultra on all games, though.

R9 290 is a better choice. Has 10-20% better performance and it costs just about the same (usually only up to $20-30 more).

I have a gigabyte GTX 770 and it runs EVERYTHING I throw at it perfectly. Battlefield 3 ultra settings 150fps, all valve games 300fps it jsut takes what ever is spat at it no problem in my opinion since I have been fucking it over with games like dayz, using games with intense scenes of lighting and shader detail. It's perfectly strong enough in my experiences :/

run metro last light, watchdogs or crysis 3 or even far cry 3 at full details settings at 1080p and monitor your framerates...there's a bunch of games that are more demanding than the one's you've mentionned and those are ''old'' games...far cry 4 ?!...anyway...

Lets not forget that valve games are not really demanding and Battlefield can utilize the ridiculously OP 4960x you have. DO NOT FORGET THAT! Also wtf. 770 with a 4960x? Upgrade that shit lol.

Most games on high settings yes, some games won't though such as Far Cry 3, Watch Dogs, Modded Skyrim and Crysis 3. I would really try to save your pennies and get an R9 290 though or a 780 if you are a dedicated member of the green team.

Hey man this is some kind of an idea that you've built in your mind by readings comments on forums isnt it?! Those where comments made by people that didnt had the hardware to push watchdogs on ultra at 1080p with a smooth framerate...the game itself is VERY fun and VERY addictive and with a core i7 haswell and an high-end graphics card the experience of playing this is VERY good...the game is perfectly smooth and bug free on my system and i loved every bit of it actualy. The game is not ''broken'' or ''unfinished'' or anything along those line. It is indeed a very demanding game to run on max settings and yes probably it could have been optimised better but that is the case for many AAA games out there and if you have the proper hardware to throw at it then it doent have to be optimised that well for it to run great, hence my recommandation to the OP to go the AMD route and get a radeon R9 290 4GB 512bit bus width video card instead of a shitty 2gb 386bit GK104 last gen tech GTX 770.

BTW before you say VRAM of 4GB is useless, be aware watchdogs and titanfall both require 3.7gb of VRAM to max out the texture settings at 1080P and it will be the same for many games to come, myself can't max out watchdogs texture settings because of VRAM limitation on my 3GB graphics card and that sucks, so i would trade my GTX 780 for an R9 290 anyday.

Well 1) i am not going to support someone who stabs every one that really wanted the see it as it's best. 2) my card has 4GB of VRAM but as you see I not really a fan of AMD for my reason in my personal life. So please do write and other large paragraph telling me why my opinions are wrong and why I should go back to ubi because 1)uplay is a piece of shit imo 2) I FUCKING HATE sony  so that the phrase of every time a watch dogs ad comes up it's "best experienced on PS4" that just makes me want to throw a brick in the face of sony's ceo
