Dell Desktop: Fan Issue

Go to solution Solved by brownninja97,

I have a Dell Inspiron 580 desktop, it has a rear 92mm Foxconn fan, but since the 5450 barely makes any heat, I took it out. It's much more quieter and I have no heating issues.

However, when I boot it up, it says "Fan not detected, F1 to startup, press F2 to Set BIOS Options". The Dell BIOS is so restricted, you can't change anything about the fans. I don't want to purposely have a noisy fan (it's actually an HTPC), and have to press F1 every time I boot up.

Yeah i have a lot of knowledge with dells motherboards, you will need another fan or it will bitch out, the 92mm fan that i had in my 620 wasnt too bad, it hits 1200rpm, the bios is restricted because its h61, h61 barely has any features, gigabyte and asus have nice skins but they are basically are all limited big time and then again its not like any other features are needed, how many people are using insprions to get some crazy gaming build, the number is less then 200 inclusing you and I.

Find a quiet 92mm fan and put it in. Hell, put a LNA on a really quiet 92mm fan.

No. Why put an unnecessary fan?

So you don't have to deal with the F1 crap.

The HD 6750 that came with my pre-built was super loud. Even my 10x more powerful R9 270 is waaaaay quieter.

5450 is passively cooled. The ref card comes with a 40mm fan. Yeah. 1 cm of it is the bearing itself. I can't hear it. When I turn on the PC, you hear it roar, but now it's silent. A 6750 is a low end gamer card, obviously that's loud.

Destroy the Dell with an axe and build an HTPC. The only way to fix it.

HAHAHAH no its not, mine is more powerful and then it can be overclocked more, the thing cost about the same price as a higher tier 7950 but ariapc did a 30% sale on it so i got lucky, brought it down to the gtx 660 league of which was a no brainer at the time.

Heres a comparision

I didn't know people still bought Dells who weren't being cheap with their business or school district. Its easier than ever to build a system... proprietary and locked bios are disgusting.

I bought it when I knew nothing about computers. I was 10. Now my parents use it as a HTPC, while I built my own gaming system.
