Question on installing windows

So say I just built my pc and it POSTs. Should I have my USB with windows 8.1 in the first time I boot?

Okay thanks. Wasn't really thinking I thought maybe you had to set boot order to USB first, restart then install windows.

You do have to set USB to the top of the boot order first.

Your PC will restart multiple times during the installation and multiple times after during windows updates.

Yes but I mean before I install windows. Like after I set usb to top boot priority

Yes, after setting boot priority and once you save the BIOS settings the computer will restart.

just plug in the usb, set it as boot priority, save it, then press the reset button or shut it off and turn it back on ;)

Some motherboard have a key like F12 which shows a menu where it ask you which device you want to boot from. This is great for a '1 time exception boot', so that you don't break you head in going in the BIOS/UEFI setup and change the boot order, and once your are done, put it back.

Refer to your motherboard manual for this feature.
