FX CPU in m-ATX MOBO

Hello there i am confused about the FX-6300 CPU in a m-ATX motherboard. Will it be worse than going for an ATX. I realy like the Prodigy M case so i would love to have my build fit to the m-ATX MOBO

Thank you in advance i hope to get some good answers that can say if i loose performance or if it's just heat that will be the problem.

There's no difference except the sizes. So you're fine in an M-ATX mobo

correction

mATX AM3+ board are really trash

the VRMs are the main problem

and no SATA 3 and USB 3 too

Don't go am3+ matx. They're beyond garbage.

If you really want to use the prodigy, then go intel.

I've seen quite a lot of m-atx boards with usb3.0 and Sata 3

thats because they use a 3rd party chip for the SATA 3 and USB 3

but main problem is the VRMs

they dont supply enough power for 6 cores let alone 8 cores

They are kinda trash unfortunately. Plus they are usually limited to 2 dims..Which is like...why? What is this, itx?
If you will get one, get this one. Has VRM cooling and 4 dimms.

But for AM3+ atx is probably best bet.

It is PCIe 2.0, which is fine, and has USB 3. But is sata 3Gb/s

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

if he doesnt overclock it's fine.

but for $10 more he can get a g3258+asrock z97m anniversary +cooler master hyper 212, which will outperform a stock fx6300--except maybe rendering, but with an ssd the intel build would no question win as it supports Sata 3 whereas amd will only support Sata 2.

Calling it trash becouse of 2 Dimm slots and no vrm cooling and recomending a sata2 with cooling. I can't get that to make sense sorry :P

I'm going with a singel 8 gb ram for the option to upgrade later sooo 2 Dimm slots is no probem.

Because I've owned them. They've failed.

Most people whoa re building an matx fx are doing budget for sata 3 is not a big deal. I recommended this one for reviews too.

There's only a few AM3+ Sata 6Gb/s boards. 2 dimms, no vrm cooling. Good for budget builds, but not much else imo. These are the two I found on newegg, and have decent reviews.

I'd really recommend ATX for AM3+

our am3 matx cpu (that we had)ran at 40% load just on desktop and it easnt the cpu. if you want a decent gaming cpu in mAtx, then go for an FM2+ mobo with a athlon 760K fm2, at least I did that and now bf4 etc. run without problems

But is there any cpu i can upgrade to in the FM2+ line ? It was also my first thought to get a 760k but then a couple days ago i decided to go with am3+ becouse of the mATX

It depends, if all your applications use 6 cores and above AMD is fantastic value. If they don't you're basically buying a CPU with 2007 performance.

No FM2+ is kind of slow quad cores only. AM3 is a bit better.

maybe there will be some new FM2+ cpus or apus, that have more than 4 cores, in the future which you can use as an upgrade
