should I install it before I try to get my build to post and then just put the motherboard in with the cooler still on, or should i go like watercooling does and use the default fan first

I think this is just a philosophical question. A bit of a gamble. If you feel lucky, just put the cooler on.

Probably would advise against, if you got to build 10 rigs at once.

What i am trying to say is the following: Do you think you would waste more time with installing the aftermarket cooler and finding out it doesnt post or installing the default cooler first, only to see it posts and need to install the aftermarket cooler afterwards.

Most of the time i just install the aftermarket cooler if it doesnt take too much time. The chance of your hardware beeing faulty out of the box isnt that high.

If you intend to build a rig that you can easily take out then it's OK to just build it in but if you're gonna watercool Then best you individually test each component, before you throw blocks on, and radiators in. This is because it'll be time consuming to troubleshoot if everything is installed.

What kind of case you got? The real question you need to ask yourself: "Can i still cable up my mainboard in the case while my giant air cooler is in the way." In my cheapo case i really couldnt...
