Nexus 5 Qi charger

NinjaPenguin

In a month or so i'm going to buy myself a nexus 5. And since it supports Qi charging I want to buy one to cover a large portion of my desk(integrated), but i can't find any chargers with a large enough coil cover the space I want.

So my question is if I can buy several of these small diy Qi chargers and put them close to each other, or will it cause to much interference?

Here is the link for the diy kit http://goo.gl/goUvj5

I should work, but maybe max it out at 4 in a square- don't get crazy with 8 or 10 :D

EDIT- if. Your desk has any metal in it, make sure to properly insulate it, and keep the coils from touching.

Wouldn't do it myself

"Have you tried turning it off and on again?"

You never know what happens when asynchronous magnetic fields add up and subtract from each other. Also I don't know wether or not the phone can cope with the extra voltage or current.

But do think it will work if I space them out, lets say 5cm

I don't THINK so, no. Also that will use a lot of power compared to one single wireless charger, which already has less than 50% efficiency.

I think I will just stick with the one, but since it won't show through my pc desk I'm going to mark where the charger is because I don't want to guess where it is all the time. And pffft what do you have parents for??? ;)

BTW the closer the ring gets to the phone, the better the phone will charge...

Dont put it under the table....

I know there has to be a certain distance between the charger and the phone, so I was going to make a hole from beneath the desk almost throgh so there will be a few mm between the two

Sounds good.

I'm pretty sure there are wireless chargers from large name manufacturers on the market that use more than one coil with no issue.

I also don't think the efficiency is that low.

Yes, but they most likely will be synchronised coils with a system that figures out the load and adjusts the current to each coil.

On the ebay page it says that the input is 5V 2A and the output is 5V 500-1000mA... Sooo thats 25%-50% efficiency....
