I have VI Hero Mobo with a 4770k, cooling that I have the Noctua NH-D14.

Currently overclocked to 4.4ghz manually with the voltage at 1.142 stable for the last few months, I'm happy with this, to me this is good voltage? With these settings, from memory a few months ago I don't think I go over 70 degrees or it could be 75 on a full load.

I have everything I need to delid, I've just held it back for some reason, I'd like it to be cooler and maybe overclocked it a good bit more, but with the current setup I don't want to make the temps any higher without delidding, so what do you think?

I'd say that you should go for water cooling, typically it provides noticeably better cooling than air coolers provide.

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

Your temps are good enough where you don't have to take the risk of delidding

Yeah I've been thinking about it a lot lately... Hmm

Ive actually had a H100i but the temps were horrible for me, I tried everything but nothing worked so I just sold it and went for my current one

Your temps are pretty good so I wouldn't do it.

Ill test them again once I get in the door.

Wow your chip is fcking nice. Do not bother with delid until you are hitting the high 80s. Mind you if you do delid use CLB Pro or Ultra. I dropped by 13C At max load.

Thanks, yeah I can't remember which CLB I bought a few months ago but it's definitely one of them anyway :P

You only delid if the temperature is the thing that is holding you back. This has to be a rule somewhere.

You got a more than nice chip so if you wanna go extreme,do it. If not, there is no reason to do that.I bet you can hit 4.8ghz with less than 1.30v

I think I'll just go ham when I get home and see how much I can scrape out of it at the moment the way it is, do you think I'll hit that without a delid?

Delidding is more for posterity, competition or simply just for fun.

If none of these appeal to you I'd hold back on a delid.

Its really down to me getting a better overclock with better temps to be honest...

Of course.Maybe even 4.9.

You have to try it before doing anything ;)

you won the silicon lottery mate...4.4GHZ with less than 1.15v is not vert common..seems like you have a beast of a chip i wouldnt risk deliding it just in case something would go wrong...

my CPU need 1.2v to be stable at 4.3GHZ and for 4.4GHZ i need to pump a whooping 1.28v into it to get it not to blue screen and the temps are aweful to the point where 4.4ghz is not worth it for my chip..so i run 4.3ghz and 1.2v :( lucky you!

and yes the NHd14 is pretty much as good as any AIO water coolers available.

Thats awesome to hear, I'll post picture once I'm home anyway, shouldn't be too long! I remember back a few months ago on my old build my i7 965 Extreme need nearly 1.3v to pull only 3.8ghz haha! What temps do you hit at that voltage?

Temps are fine unless you go 1.3 and up. You will see high 80s ofc on p95 or any other stress test but in a gaming load you are looking in 70-75C which is good.

Common misconception.

Is is as good as any AIO in a certain amount of voltage. After you pass that point,it falls behind.

For the OPs case though,it's true.

Well the temps are good. Are you expecting a "noticeable" performance boost? Because most humans cant distinguish + or - a few hundred MHz. Feeling faster is usually placebo.

Im nor sure I can really answer that, it wasn't long after I got my 4770k that I overclocked it, so I never really had time to use stock clocks...

Not worth it with those temps/volts. If you have a chip that does like 4.9ghz @ 1.35v but it's just a little too hot- that's when you delid.

Another follow up, I can maybe get it stable at 4.7ghz by going over 1.3v, it boots with 4.7ghz at 1.28 but it's not stable

Edit: reverted back to 4.4 for the time being
