-snip-

It's fine memory, however the Mac Pro takes low profile DIMMs and I believe they are quad channel as well. I would get this Apple certified memory. http://store.apple.com/us/memorymodel/ME_MACPRO_W13_RAM

im pretty sure all memory is good memory x.x

should be fine

No, they need to be low profile DIMMs.

It's registered ECC. That's about as cheap as it gets for registered ECC modules of those sizes.

What do you mean by low profile? Could you light me up? I am pretty dumb at this point.

meaning low height of the RAMs

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

No problem. They have to be shorter than normal DIMMs.

I suggest using the official Apple RAM I linked. It's guaranteed to work.

RAM is ram there is very few things to distinguish it...
Cas latencys vary from 7-14; MHz varies from 1333-3000ish  those two stats usually cancel each other out
Heat Syncs unless overclocking like mad are just for show... PCB Color is genuinely just for show...
Brands are really just for customer support and warranty...
ECC and non ECC... ECC is a plus  but only if your CPU and MOBO allow you to use it...
Size of Ram (Dimm vs SODimm) Laptop vs Desktop non respectively

Essentially RAM is RAM

The big question is this: are you building a server? Because that is server memory not standard desktop memory. Un'ess you're using an Intel Xeon or AMD Vishera/Opteron chip, you won't be able to use it, and it's considerably slower because of the ECC and extra CAS Latency it adds.

He has a Mac Pro so I assume it's going to require ECC RAM.

Wait... isn't the RAM soldered onto the mac pro?

You can remove it if you have a heat gun as long as you're careful.

I wouldn't attempt to reball a multi-thosand £/$ machine myself but it's an option I guess..

However looking at an article from apple it seems you can upgrade the Mac pro RAM.

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6054

And it also looks like it'd have to be ECC

And I admit as late as it was for me when I answered, yes, it'd have to be ECC RAM. My mistake.
