im not sure about that cpu as you want to do 3d rendering and video editing, it should be enough though a 6 core would be nice

I wish there was a 6 core cpu for that board tho, there are only 4 and 2 cores avaliable, possible a future upgrade if they release a 6 core I will replace it but for now its down to the four

Use the Z97 WS instead, other this 4790K is good

The choice of a 6 core 4930K or a 4 core 4790K is yours now, however I'd recommend the 6 core

Noticed that i mixed the z97 and z87 and fixed that and when i went back and looked to see if i could go with a 6 core 4790k there was none for this board for some reason. I'm in the US in south carolina so idk why that would be. any ideas? here is the final thing pretty much if you want a look for yourself

I wish I had 5k for a budget...goddamn the things I could do. Hell with that money I could pay to have a glass blower make my dream loop (I did speak to one, it would cost several hundred dollars but according to him is completely doable)

And drop that 212 for a noctua cooler. Cooler master's fan on the 212 is a joke (I had one, it sucked)

Do ya'll think one graphic card can handle a 3d render program?

Well the major I'm going to do is a master in industrial engineering so I think from looking at the classes required i will have to be 3d rendering a lot

I would recommend finding out what program they will be teaching you to work with, then find out what hardware works nicely. I honestly wouldn't rely on the "pros" on this forum for this. You're gonna have some homework.

I would build this since you're not for sure what rendering program you'll be taught on. I saved a bit for keyboard, mouse, ATX case, and any programs or extras you may need. Plus the Asus monitor is 4K!

that 550W power supply in the "FINAL SPECS"  thread has me slightly concerned.  there is little to no overhead for capacitor aging.  if it were my build, i would be more comfortable with a 650 or 750W unit.  but thats just me.

The budget for this is $5000. Only requirment is 2 ssd with os on them in raid zero and two hard drives and raid one for safe storage. This is for enginering courses so keep this in mind. Willing to go over said budget if it means getting what I need to run enginering programs on said computer. Just need one monitor so please include that, windows 8.1, and the windows student programing like word and what not. Never built a computer before so this is why I am asking for ya'lls help. Also have no case for it either. Need ya'll to include that also.

I'm not trolling ya'll, I just don't know anything about building computers or parts for that mater. I have a decent mouse that works fine, and any keybored will do. Not really picky about it. Can type fast on pretty much anything. Used to pudlic school computers never having the same keybored to the one next to it. Just need a good computer for school. I know I could go cheeper on the price I'm willing to spend but just want the best that I can get for the money I have.

Not a terribly good build.

There is no motherboard.

RAID 0 ssd for the system drive might actually deliver worse performance than a single 512GB drive, http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ssd-raid-benchmark,3485-13.html.

RAID 1 does not provide "safe storage". There simply is no such thing. Only good backups provide mitigation of failures.

Thermal compound is not needed because the Hyper 212 EVO, as do most cpu coolers, comes with thermal compound.

The Hyper 212 EVO is far from optimal on the X79 platform. In fact Asus recommends AIO coolers for X79, especially if one is going to overclock. Dominator Platinum memory modules are far too tall to fit under the Hyper 212 EVO fan.

A much higher quality and slightly bigger psu should be in the build.

A good quality motherboard will include on-board Ethernet connection(s) and 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac WiFi.

I'm not a fan of the case and I don't think RAID 1 hdd will do what you think it will. But here are my suggestions incorporated into your build.

Good idea, and build a computer around that

There is a reason why it says I am a rookie at this. I really don't know what I am doing. What exactly is a psu? And someone suggested the Z97-WS motherboard. For 3d rendering which one would be better? And what case would you think would be better tho?

A psu is a Power Supply Unit, it provides power to the system and with all the parts listed above 550 watts isn't going to cut it.  Go with a corsair ax1500i and you'll be golden.

1500 Watts right now with the build I'm thinking of is a lot of over kill but what do I know? anyway I was going to go off of brob since he seems to know what he is doing.

@brob

So changed the case which in the end was cheaper and changed the two hard drives for a green and a blue one from corsair. The only thing I am worring about now tho is fan control, how would you go about doing that? And also the fan placment with push and pull?

Wow the amount of BS being said in this topic is mind blowing. I think i've only read 3 sensible posts. First of all: find out what programs you're actually gonna be running. We can recommend much better stuff based on that.

Also with a budget like this, and the need for safe storage you might want to consider a NAS with incremental backups(preferably daily). This will be much safer then a Raid 1 can ever be , because even if you manually delete it on your main rig it will still be there in an older snapshot in the NAS. Also if any thing happens to the computer, raid 1 wont do much as both of the HDD's are still in the same space, so they're still both damaged.

Also please don listen to the people recommending a 1500W PSU that would be monstorous overkill even with 3 titans.

"Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools because they have to say something."

Also needs a new profile picture..
