I bought a pentium g3258 after I saw linus' video and for some reason I can't get it passed 4.2gHz and the voltage for it to be stable is 1.385 wich is more than the voltage they got for 4.7gHz. I also want to point out that my cooler is a nzxt kraken x61 so its better then the h100i used in the video and at 4.2gHz heat is not a problem i get abaout 60 celsius on a stress test so heat is not a problem but at highter clock speed it just crash before I am even in the OS. I am also using an asus hero VII for the motherboard.

I need some help.

4790k@4.5GHz, GTX 980, GTX 770 (physX card), 16 GB RAM, 840 evo 120, asus z97pro (wifi ac), kraken x41 cooler, evga supernova 750 G2

I guess that hole thighter overclock thing with the devil canyon is pure marketing and completely false.

No, it is actually true. The thermal compound between the chip and the heat spreader on the CPU has been upgraded. I guess you just got a bad chip. Don't be discouraged, my 4670K isn't that good of a chip.

It is not, people nowadays expects to buy a CPU and overclock it to 4.8ghz, and that's not they way it works.

overclocking is increasing the multiplier beyond product specification, beyond what the manufacturer made that chip for. That's why they don't come at 4.5ghz out of the box, because not all chips can do it.

Marketing motherboards for OC and CPUs for OC makes people think that if they pay those products they will get whatever clocks they expect.

The whole point in Devil's Canyon is that the CPUs had been reviewed, having better temps and stability, which also benefits the people that overclocks. It doesn't mean you are buying a 4.8ghz processor for under $80

5ghz on air

:P

Nah, but steppings do help with clocks.
