Well I like the R9 270 people were right it does a great job, And I am glad I got it over the R7 265. But I think I want more power. I looked at tri fan R9 290's and the 3 fans keep the temps to around 70c that is about the temps of the old 5850. But they are too xxxx long to fit in my Antec 300. So the R9 280 comes to mind because it still has 3gb and is close to the 280X and is shorter and cheaper. I just need to ask though. Are the 280 models still having severe artifact issues?  I know the artifacts are almost with all AMD cards because of the crap driver coders. But it looks like the 280's got the worst of it. I want to ask which would be the best brand of 280 to get. I know the Asus ones are bad for artifacting. But what about His , Saphire and Power Color. The HIS I know is ok because my 270 is a HIS, and I have had good luck with Saphire. And my brothers 7950 is a power color and he has had good luck with it. What do you think?

I would love a 780 but you see it's over half a grand and the 280 is only $219

I was looking at 290's But it will take about 7 months to save up to 290 780 price. It would just be nice if the 770 was prived around $230

your safest bet is the R9 280X

that is if you are only planning to game at 1080P very High

Maybe I am just getting greedy. I would love to have all the greatest stuff, But I should be happy with above average right? Or is that just cheapness rising from the surface?

maybe

grab the 280 and be done

worry about getting another gpu later and you will be ready for another upgrade

don't buy the 270 because it is cheap and later regret it coz it can't play games at higher details

Blair

You already have the 270?

If so,this is not a good upgrade. You are looking into 10-15% performance increase. Not worth your $200+

If you are gonna make an upgrade, make it worth it.

whoops didn't see he got the 270 already...

for the moment i was thinking he was picking between 270 and 280

big step from the 270 will be the 280X or 290 indeed

provided he got some money to scrape together

270 vs 280 is a good step up, but much more performance will only bring a 290 or higher. And you will lose money changing your gpu, so you'd be better off only doing this once and getting the 290 right away

You should do it like me wait a little and get something a lot better spend a little more then you want. I went from a 5830 to a 7950 for 340 euros at the time. 7970 was to expensive for me but its really worth it getting one of the higher end cards instead of going for  less.

Don't get me wrong I would love to have a SSD, But The prices are just too insane. I like to have a decent amount of space for my OS and my game installations. And we all know the only way a SSD will benefit me is running the OS and games, So this means I will need a SSD of atleast 500GB. And $253 bucks for a samsung is the cheapest 500GB SSD I could find. The prices need to go way down before I buy one. It just makes me so angry when I see the SSD prices. Just like during the stupid bitcoin craze when the AMD 7000 series was doubled in price, I got just as angry seeing a 7870 for $349 and the 7850 for $249. It's called taking advantage of your customer. And I hate that. It makes me as crazy as the character Muggy from Fallout New Vegas when he would talk about mugs.

Upgrading from 270 to 280 ?! Thats waste of money.  To justify the upgrade you should go at least 280x to notice a good difference.

Go with a 280x, and choose MSI or Gigabyte's windforce range, they always have great coolers and a good warranty service, just make sure you buy new and not used (with the current bitcoin mining fiasco coming to an end).

What is the price different between 280 and 280x there? If it pretty huge, just get 280. Honestly i suggest hold off and wait for Tonga in Q4. While waiting you could save up money for R9-290 the best upgrade path imo.

I suppose I will just hold on to the 270 then. I have not even broke it in yet. But it does irritate me seeing a saphire R9 280 for only $229.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202099&cm_re=R9_280-_-14-202-099-_-Product%C2'> This is just a month and a half after I paid $179.99 for the R9 270. That's a sweet deal. Just like when I bought my GTX 650 Ti , Not long after I saw a 650 Ti boost model for $25 more.

I hear ya, I grabbed a 270 for $165 and saw the 280 priced at $230 a few days later. Think of it this way though, $180-$230 is a %28 increase in cost for about the same increase in performance, basically they are the same "bang for the buck".

Side thought: Have you overclocked your 270 at all? I can get 1110-1120 mhz bench stable and it improved synthetic tests quite a lot compared to the stock 975mhz clock. I tried all the OC software to find one that would let me adjust voltage, but then was informed it is locked in the card's bios. I mention this because I seriously think it would be difficult to damage this card with OC...it just runs such a low voltage and does not get hot at all.

FWIW, I went from a score of 4787 in 3Dmark Firestrike to 5442 just with a quick GPU/CPU OC. That's a 13.7% performance increase for free!

No mine is locked at 1050 and I only tried it at 1050 just to test it. I have not had really any need to overclock it yet, To be honest I have not had any problems getting good frame rates with my card. Like I said I was just being greedy.
