If Oculus need 90hz+ is a 1440p display possible over HDMI or Displayport ?  How about 4k (bearing in mind it looks like we are looking at 2015)?

They will still be 1080, since you have to push 2x 1080 screens at 90hz.... That is seriously tough to run!!!

No way could you push dual 1440 orl 4k displays (one for each eye) at 90hz

Both screens are 960*1080 which equals one 1920*1080 screen.

As far as I know they are planning to go 1440p.

Oh I see,  half 1080p for each eye 1440p would be perfectly OK, 4k would be too hard to drive except for the hardcore, I think Oculus want to make VR appeal to the masses not just appeal to those with dual titans

They use single panels and do SBS (side by side) rendering to make 2 screens for the left and right eyes.

So far :

DK1

800p        x 1280 panel   =  640h x 800v per eye

1, 024, 000 pixels total

512, 000 pixels stereo

Dk2

1080p    x 1920 panel     =  960h x 1080v per eye

2, 073, 600  pixels total

1, 036, 800 stereo

Possible CV1 options :

1440p    x 2560 panel     =  1280h x 1400v per eye

3,584,000 pixels total

1, 792, 000 stereo

2160p   x 3840 panel     =   1920h x 2160v per eye

8,294,400 pixels total

4, 147, 200 stereo

The question is can HDMI or display port run 1440p at 90hz+ . It seems to be no for 4k.

4k@60hz works with displayPort, so in theory 1440p@120hz should be no problem, 1440p has less than half the ammount of pixels compared to 4k.
