Windows 7 vs 2004 Dell

I was getting annoyed with Windows XP, so I decided to throw Windows 7 Professional 32-bit on my Dell. And what I got... Was not expected.

 

For being a Dell from 2004, it does pretty well. When it still had XP, it handled most of the stuff I threw at it pretty well. Games, videos, music, etc. But I kept getting a validation error so I threw a copy of Windows 7 Professional 32-bit on it to see how it did. What amazed me is how there were drivers for the audio on Windows update, and the ethernet driver was installed when I got Windows on it. There were no video drivers so I have to use the one that Microsoft provides and it sucks. But everything else is actually pretty fast. Even my Windows Experience Index score wasn't that bad.

 

 

And my boot times and loging times were really good. Boot was 36 seconds (start of boot screen to login screen), and my login was 11 seconds. Do you guys think this is doing pretty good for such an old Dell? The Dell in question is in my sig, named Deadly Dell.

Keep in mind that the GPU isn't supported by Windows 7.

I know windows experience index is a terrible benchmark tool but come on at least have scores that make sense.

Oh no I'm talking about ram requirements how low must you go to hit 1 for memory when microsoft state you need at least 1gb of ram in the first place :L

i have an old rig with p4 650 HT 3.4 Ghz

2GB RAM

80 GB mighty Maxtor HDD 

Burnt Gigabyte Geforce 8400GS 512Mb

 

i was capable to at least enjoy cod 4 at 40 fps

Hey... You've to research about GPU drivers... It took me a lot of time and bluescreens to install my 9250 in windows 7... It was an odd one: Download W2K drivers, extract and install MANUALLY making windows searc in that folders drivers for it... That's how I managed to run MC on W7 with my 9250
