will I notice an upgrade from phenom to phenom II or fx?

well I am hopefully going to be upgrading my pc soon. I am thinking of going to a Fx 6300, 8gb 1333 or 1600 ram, and an asrock 970 extreme 3. but in the mean time I could grab a phenom II 965be and throw that in my am2/am2+/am3 board. I am currently running a phenom 9550 (b3) 2.2ghz at 2.6ghz (240 fsb).

would I notice the upgrade to phenom II or the FX in game performance?

I will be overclocking with a cooler master hyper 212+ with As5 tim

You're looking at a range from 5% to 10% clock for clock improvement in a gaming scenario from a Phenom to Phenom II.
