Chucking SSD into system with large hard drive.

Steelguy21
Go to solution Solved by xeeuwot,

reinstal windows on to the ssd adn then format the other drive

Did you even read his post, I mean, cmon man!

Don't worry Steelguy21 all your friend needs to do is:

  1. Install the SSD into his system and disconnect the Harddrive (This ensures that the Windows bootloader will be written to the SSD and not the Harddrive)
  2. Install Windows onto the SSD
  3. Reinstall the harddrive and boot from the SSD
  4. Deleting the old Windows files from the Harddrive is where it gets slightly complicated.  You need to take ownership of the old Windows folders (i.e. Windows, Program Files) and to do so he should follow this: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/
  5. Right click on the old windows folders and click "Take Ownership" and you should be able to delete them.

Hope this is helpful! :)

Hi guys,

Got a mate who wants to install a SSD into his system but already has a 1TB Blue in the system. Is there a way he can just install Windows on the SSD and somehow "Uninstall" Windows off of his other hard drive so there is no need to reformat the other drive and then back up his files.

Cheers!

If you're getting a Samsung or another certain kind of SSD, some of them come with a software that lets you just clone your OS and nothing else.

So deleting the windows files shouldn't corrupt anything on the other drive? Is there any programs that do this procedure just right proper? Cheers for actually reading the post ohJey and Davsmith4 <3
