I feel sorry for your case, you shouldn't force a 12" into it..

No, it's not overkill. The 8320 is still a good CPU especially for it's price. 

I am looking into buying an r9 290 for my gaming pc. I currently have a 7850, and I dont know if the 290 is overkill for my cpu.

R9 290 is never a bad decision :) make sure its a TRI-x from sapphire lol
