WD vs Seagate

I'm just going to vote Western Digital because I have one but I am buying a Seagate for my new computer so I am going both.

I chose Seagate because my WD Drive died and it was too slow. I picked up a Seagate Momentus XT 500GB for my laptop and I got a 1TB 7200RPM drive for my desktop. Haven't had any issues with them.

Yep, I agree with the Seagate Barracudas for speed and price, and also their 1tb platters.

Both are made by the same OEM if I remember correctly. Anyway both since they are both good brands, all depends on which are cheaper at the time of buying.

both are great. Seagate dosen't have something like a black in their product line.

 

And Seagate Constellation ES are as expensive as WD RE4.

WD, simply because I've always had a good experience with their drives (bar one dead caviar black, which was successfully RMA'd within 2 weeks)

Western Digital. Had 3 Seagates die on me, and also they are a lot louder then the Western Digitals. I have 3 WD Green, 1 Scorpio Blue 2,5" and i had one Black. But i sold the Black to a friend, because i got an SSD...

Honestly they're both good companies so I choose whichever has the best price/performance and doesn't turn up with a reputation of bad batches after a search.

If I really had to choose, then I'd go with WD because they distinguish what each HDD is made for more clearly (e.g. Green is more power efficient but slower, Blue is normal, Black is fast but pricey etc.).

 

That said, I have a Samsung Spinpoint 1TB because it had a good price and good reviews...

Western Digital. Haven't got a Seagate Drive AFAIK and my old 80GB WD Caviar is still working pretty solid though I did not intend to not have a Seagate Drive since both are actually good from what I see... :)

I like most of what Seagate offers, except for their Baraccuda series, which have a terrible failure rate (along the lines of 30% if I recall correctly). I am loving my 2TB Seagate SV35.5, which was only a little bit more than a Baraccuda, and had much better reviews.

 

As for WD, they just seem overpriced. They don't really have many benefits, except maybe a better RMA service. But honestly, I choose Seagate over WD.

 

Idealy, though, I would go pure Sammy 840 Pro SSDs in RAID 5, but oh well.

I have a few of both in my rig I honestly can't tell the difference, I get the drive with the best price/ capacity ratio for the size I need.

Seagate. 

I had a WD 1TB Drive and it was the loudest thing in my computer! Really annoyed me. 

Got a Seagate barracuda 1 TB and it is much quieter and quiet a bit faster!

Both have good products and good support but I choose Seagate because their drives are usually cheaper for the same size.
