Sapphire r9 290 Tri-X - Low performance?

CristianVK
Go to solution Solved by MonkeyFace,

Will try to reinstall the drivers again.

I've already tried that, but will do it again.

Thanks again!

Make sure you uninstall the drivers and delete all the folders and registry before reinstaling.

Hello, I've had my new PC for over 2 months. 2 or 3 weeks ago, in some games that I used to get high frame rates like BF4 (over 70 fps), it has started to suffer to get to 60 fps. Also, I bought Far Cry 3 (Thank you GabeN), and the same thing, it cant get constant 60 fps. I've downloaded the latest drivers, the beta drivers... Also, I've tried the TRIXX overclocking program, using these settings:

http://gyazo.com/c33f41f5121bbce2d5f504e16006495e

http://gyazo.com/f416b046a9358c7c764e53504eac472c

The performance improves a little bit, but i dont understand why, having a R9 290, I have to OC it to get (or not) constant 60 fps.

I have also used antimalwares to see if there was a Bitcoin miner or something like that, but my PC is clean.

Thank you and sorry if I have commited any grammar mistakes, English is not my first language xD.

I have an i7 4770 and I play on 1080p. No bottleneck and no 1440p or 4K, just a pretty normal resolution that its supposed to be easily handled by this card.

Thank you!

Check the temperatures while playing, it may be overheating.

Also, when was the last time you updated your drivers? Sometimes newer drivers cause performance issues at times.

Take a screenshot of the game settings you're using.
Is this your first build ? you might be over-sampling, so disable anti-aliasing or keep it at x2 or x4 max.

I've installed Afterburner, and here are the temperetures while playing FC3:

Now I have the beta 14.6, but when I had the 14.4 the problem was already there. I dont really know if it has upgraded before the 14.4, i installed the Gaming Evolved application, and it's supposed to auto-update your drivers.

This were my settings on FC3:

Alto -> High

Muy alto -> Very high

In BF4 i use the ultra preset.

Yes, it is my first build.

I could try that, but the problem it's like a month/ month and a half ago, the fps were higher with identical settings, so I dont know what could be the problem xD.

Thanks to both of you!

I noticed you overclocked it a little. Try increase your Power Limit to +10 or +20 or max it out if you don't want to bother with it anymore but monitor your core and vrm temperature.

Yeah, i forget that, i OC it a little with the TRIXX, and i forget to increase the power limit, tthank you.

I' ve thought  that reinstalling my OS could be a solution, but i wouldn't like to do that. Any other options?

Performance still low after u increased power limit? Max the power limit.

If still same problem, use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) from Guru3D to remove your driver and reinstall it.

Ok, so I've max the power limit, also put it to +10/+20, and qqhen i hit apply, my screen goes completely black. I've to restart it in order to use it again.

Will try to reinstall the drivers again.

Would you mind taking a screen shot of "IMAGEN" ? It includes important in-game settings as well.

Your GPU load seems very typical, nothing out of the ordinary.

Like Monkeyface said, REALLY delete them. A good program is driver sweeper: http://www.guru3d.com/content_page/guru3d_driver_sweeper.html

I could never recommend Driver Sweeper to anyone...yet. It's not 100% accuracy. Most times it doesn't remove all the folders, and sometimes it removes unrelated registries and folders.

Right now, it's just better/more accurate to do it manually.

Driver Sweeper is super old, DDU is the one to use for latest automated driver removal.

I was once having problems with my card (not the same as your's though), to fix them I uninstalled my display drivers with DDU, then reinstalled them. I recommend trying that out.

Ok, so i've followed this tutorial and the performance issues seems to have disappeared in BF4! But it still remains in FC3... It's an Nvidia optimized game or something?

Thanks for the replys and the helps guys!

Try turning off HBAO, I believe this is a Nvidia feature. HDAO will do exactly the same thing, including the performance penalty. SSAO will have the least performance penalty.

IMO, most people don't notice the difference between HBAO/HDAO and SSAO anyway.
