PSU just poped!

Go to solution Solved by Real_PhillBert,

Thank you all for the suggestions. I just ordered a Corsair AX-760i because I am vein and think it looks the best, plus I kinda like that I can monitor yet another temp.

Thanks again.

My 500W OCZ referb PSU just blew up in spectacular fashion. Big pop, bright blue ark light (didnt actually see it but saw the light it cast on my wall) and released all of the magic blue smoke.

Good news is that I have an extra no name 175 watt PSU sitting behind my entertainment center powering a couple of case fans I have hooked up to pull air over my HT components. So I got my PC back up on that guy. More good news is it seems none of my current parts have been damaged except the PSU which is now garbage.

I am on newegg right now with credit card in hand for a new PSU. I want full Modularity for a (now very) soon build, and enough to handle a 4970K and a 290 or a 780. I am a geek and like efficiency too, so gold or platinum certs only please.

I am thinking about going with the Corsair AX760, the EVGA alternative is currently out of stock and I will be overnighting this baby so I can get back up and running.

Thoughts ideas or complaints? I am buying one tonight, so I can have it before the 4th.

The Bitfenix Fury 750W or 650G looks pretty fancy but it's pretty new and I haven't heard whether it's a smart buy or not so I think the AX750 is a solid option.

A buddy of mine also suggested the SeaSonic X650 which is right there. I like the EVGA's 10 year warranty

Thanks for the suggestion, but $180 for a 750W gold, with a 1 year warranty. Seems a bit behind the others as of now. Thanks again for the idea though.

I would go with this.

And just to make you feel ashamed for getting that OCZ POS, the Dell NPS-210AB is still rocking in my Dell (and it gets fucking HOT in there), and my old Gateway 200 watt PSU (circa 1998) is still working great. :D

Bitfenix's website lists the Warranty as 5 years, which sounds way more appropriate than 1 year. Even crappy chinese manufacturers claim to provide longer warranties than that.

Quiet you! It was the cheapest thing I could find to run a 570 lol. I guess that's a bad plan for a PSU. I notice that my 5 year old HP 175w PSU does still work... ;)

My Dell PSU is from 2004, and the other was from 1998 (like I said), but it was used in a business environment where it was relatively clean, but on nearly 24/7.

AX760 is a great choice. Very quiet too. I have a AX860i, but that's because I like to monitor my efficiency, temp, and other stats.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I just ordered a Corsair AX-760i because I am vein and think it looks the best, plus I kinda like that I can monitor yet another temp.

Thanks again.

Corsair Link barely works at all. Almost everyone hates it. I found it worthless when using it with my H100i. Software like C-Link will likely be a big thing for power supplies in a few years, but not right now.

Well I guess I will be seeing what its like. The EVGA SuperNova that you suggested was my second choice, but I liked the looks and the idea of the software (even if reviews of it are hit and miss) a bit more. Don't be insulted that I went a different direction, it is not a reflection of you or your opinions. Just preference on my part.
