Theres no reason to get the i7 if you are just gaming. The i5 can also do rendering, it will just take a little longer. Unless you are rendering every day or running virtual machines, just get the i5 and bigger SSD.

Ill need it mainly for gaming, but maybe rendering and editing in the near future.

i5 is still capable of doing those, but it depends how heavily you do it.

Depends what you're doing with it, if only gaming go for the i5 if not the i7 is the way to go. Personally for me i rather have the bigger storage and the i5.

The windows 8.1 ony needs a max of 30GB right? Then the other 90GB can hold a few games. At least this is how I know.

depends on your general storage solution.

i for example can fit all my stuff on the 240GB. i'd go for this route.

but if you need hdds anyways and dont have many games, so that all programs and your games can fit on the 120GB, get the 120GB.

Hey, so the options are 4690k with 240gb SSD, or 4790k with 120gb SSD.Im tending to buy the i7, but I want to hear your oppinion.

I dont want to fit all of my games to the ssd, only the most used ones.I want to fit BF4 and maybe WatchDogs. The others can go to. 1TB WD Black.

then 120gb.

but depends on your programs.

keep in mind that you would have to put on your complete origin library.

go for the top tier always..

That's not very good advice. If you're not going to utilize the peformance of the top tier (4790k for mainsteam) cpu,  then it's a complete waste of money.

yes,  but Cpu's  nowadays get outdate so easily every 3 years or so & overtime that 10% bump will be enough to hold on for an extra year, if you're not planning it to be akeeper then tailored choice is good, but that's my impression in the CPU sales game.

Details separate people.

They may be outdated, but that doesn't mean they're no longer good. 1155 is over 3 years old and the 25/26/2700ks are still excellent cpus.

Oh, I see the point of that. Also, the i5 is capable of the same OC as the i7 right?

No, not even close. The 4790k has a base clock of 4.0 GHz and a boost of 4.4 AND runs far cooler than 4690k unless you delid the 4690k and apply better thermal interface material inside. It's not hard to do, just a tiny bit risky. The 4690k tops out at 3.9-4.0GHz with boost clock. It's potential is far lower.

I've gotten my 4790k up to 5 GHz on water. If the 4690k broke 4.4 on really good air without delidding I'd call it a golden chip.

yes, basically. better in some cases due to not having hyper threading.

ehm no not really. its just the silicon lottery, it is basically the same chip.

With a die shrink and better thermals and better voltage regulators for increased stability. Personally, I've reached 5.2 GHz on the 4790k with a single alphacool Monsta radiator and a pair of Noctuas in push pull. I've never seen an I5 do that.

As far as I know theyre basicly the same, with a difference in clock speed, and HT.

Also a few very minor instruction set extensions which you won't see implemented in software for a few years.

congrats. you have tested one chip.

they overclock the same, there are good and bad chips. as with any processor.
