Why would you buy it? Does it even have the ability to run the 6gb?

its the same with the GTX780 6GB

blame WatchDogs Ultra settings

3GB VRAM buffer is the minimum for GPUs to run very High settings

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Because increasing the RAM by a different amount would require a different RAM bus as well. It's much easier, and cheaper, to simply double the amount of VRAM. It's the way GPU's have always worked. You won't need, or possibly won't even be able to use the full 6GB, but you can and will run into games that will use more than 3GB.

But, I think the OP's question is referring to the 1600w PSU that is being offered with the GPU as the "combo deal".

Wow, it's one of the few people that don't have a hard time wrapping their head around GPU design

but regardless, 6GB 280x is kinda lulzy

I guess it's for crossifre setups, but at that point why not just make a 290 or 290x with 6gb? Or even a 295x2 with 12gb total.

Because even a single 290X is not capable of maxing out settings at 2560x1440p while maintaining 60fps in more demanding titles. At that res, with max settings, more than 3GB of RAM will be useful. A x2 280X 6GB crossfire setup would be an affordable option.

well true that dual 280X 6GB may make sense for 1440P resolutions

but that is provided game support SLi/X-Fire setups

sadly newer games hate them and it not 100% perfect

so single gpu still wins

SLI and Crossfire profiles may sometimes take some time to iron out, but they do get released.

True, but then a 4gb version would be enough. At 4k on the other hand, 2 280x's wouldn't be enough to max games out anyway, so a 295x2 would benefit more from having 6gb of vram available (12gb total).

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨
