True, but then a 4gb version would be enough. At 4k on the other hand, 2 280x's wouldn't be enough to max games out anyway, so a 295x2 would benefit more from having 6gb of vram available (12gb total).

But, if you had bothered to pay attention, you would know that a 4GB version is not possible due to the VRAM bus. AMD would have to switch to a 256bit or 512bit bus to make a 4GB card, which would cost even more money than just slapping an extra 3GB on the existing PCB and it's 384bit bus.

256bit/512bit = 2, 4, 8

192bit/384bit = 1.5, 3, 6

I say I do hope AMD uses 512bit 8GB VRAM for the 290XTX

 

 

although I don't mind the 4GB now

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.
