Hello guys.

Every time I browse this forum, I look at all these nice builds, but then I come across people who say, "My cables need to be perfect because I have OCD." or, "I can't live with this bad cable management." Yadadada you get the idea.

My question: do you people even know what OCD is? Obsessive Compulsive Disorder? I am absolutely fed up of people boasting about their self diagnosed case of OCD. Having a need to manage your cables is not OCD, it's just wanting something done a certain way. If someone really had cable management OCD, they'd probably have nightmares about all the cables behind their walls and below the street.

When you have OCD, you have a strong, compulsive obsession, to the point where you cannot live your life anymore. I don't think having a few mismanaged cables behind that side panel of yours is going to prevent you from living your life, from having relationships, from having a job. I don't think having some stray cables behind your side panel is going to drive you to the point where you need to have intensive mental care to live your life.

I'm tired of people tossing around the term 'OCD' as it was some sort of casual little mental disorder. As if weren't a debilitating mental condition that restricts people to their homes. I can only imagine the frustration that people have when they really have OCD and they see it being tossed around as a little 'joke'.

You guys are probably going to say, "Ohhh, but this is the internet, you can't tell us what to do." In which case you're right. I cannot tell you what to do. You also cannot tell me what to do. I'm simply expressing my opinion, and unpopular as it might be, everybody is entitled to their own. Also, the point of this forum is to share knowledge and ideas, which I am doing.

Bye bye.

Yes, I too get annoyed when I see this, even though I'm not affected by OCD.

However, I used to have some very frustrating obsessive, compulsive tendencies like regulating my breathing, counting how many times I swallow when drinking water, washing my hands constantly, etc. but it seems like it has become less common luckily.

Some linky doodles are needed:

I'm torn on this one, I have seen first hand how debilitating it can be, And I don't like the idea of trivializing something that is quite serious for many people.  But by the same token we trivialize a lot of things in the same manner.

I think if people know they aren't really OCD and are just being jovial then fine, however if you don't know how serious it can be and you are unaware of how using the term so loosely can effect others then maybe you shouldn't say it.

It just comes down to a respect thing, do you respect other forum users enough to curtail your use of something you think is benign or do you feel if they have a problem they should suck it up or leave?

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.

It can be, but being orderly is far away from being "obsessive" and having a "compulsion". Again is like my example: a lot of people can get sad, severely so but being depressed is something completely different.
