Call your ISP and have them change your external IP address.

It's probably the easiest fix. Just call them up and explain your problem, and they should fix it for you.

Run TCPDump on your server to capture the attack, and then send an abuse report along with the packet captures to the company in charge of the IP address its coming from. Im assuming hes using one of those shitty UDP flood scripts, so the attack will be coming from a single address. Blocking it in your firewalls and such will have no effect.

Other than that there is nothign you can do.

you shouldn't be running a server where random people can join off your own internet without any protection, it's kinda begging for stuff like this to happen. Try unplugging your modem for a bit, it might assign you a new IP depending on your ISP.

if that doesn't work you might just have to wait it out until he gets bored, don't worry 12 year olds have short attention spans

Me: Yeah I just really can't get my H220 working again, I've tried everything that was suggested in the forum.

Brian (Swiftech Support): Hmm, have you tried slapping it?

You dont need to trace him. You need to capture the attack using a packet capture tool, and then you need to email it as a attatchment in an abuse report to the company in charge of the address the attack is coming from.

Get the IP hes attacking from, and do a whois lookup. There should be a abuse contact email address in there.

You could block him on skype you know? If he knows your username he will always know your IP address. So yea if he knows your skype username any time you login from the same network you host your minecraft server he will know the IP address.

Also how do you know he's ddosing you? I know of a minecraft hack client that can do that but all you have to do to stop it is install a plugin and it will ban him as soon as he joins...

As the guy whos doing is probably a loser he's probably using the client I was talking about so it would be easy to stop him.

He would have to unplug his modem for quite a while... At least for comcast you have to unplug your modem for 24 hours in order for them to reassign you a address.

The modem would have to stay offline for more than 24 hours and there is no guarantee it will change the IP.

What OS are your server running on? If they are on linux i can give you a sript wich blocks DDOS attacks. I mean it has worked on my servers :D

You cant block them on the server. Your server is still having to process all of the packets it is recieving. Your connections are still saturated and at their maximum utilisation.

The only ways to mitigate a DDOS is either to get a connection with enough capacity to absorb the attack, and to have multiple servers to load balance so that your service is availible during the attack.

Yes you can. You can write an IPTABLE rule wich cuts connection after certain ammount of connection request on certan ammount of time

UDP is connectionless.

You need to prevent the malicious traffic from reaching you in the first place. Doing it in IPTables at your server doesnt do that.
