Graphics cards for 4k

Diamond Nacho

So Linus had his 4k setup, but what do you guys think I should use? I want to play at med-high settings at 45-60fps. Budget for video cards is about 1700$. So 3 770s? A Titan black with another later to come? 2 780s/780ti's? 2 R9 290x's? Or should I up my budget and go with a i5 to put some money towards my card budget? I could even go to 2000$ on my cards, but it only leaves me 1000$ for everything else including peripherals. (Monitor is like $600!)

I'd go for two 290Xs as you'll want the extra VRAM or the 295X2 if your want to do a Mini-ITX build.

R9 295x2 or go 2x 290x's.

Personally I would get the R9 295x2 as there is no performance loss, and it will run cooler/ quieter.

A couple of 780Ti's will work a treat

Not as good as an R9 295X2 or 2x R9 290X. We're talking about 4K resolution here. That's 8.8 million pixels. Not 1440p or lower which is less than half that.

Rig: Intel Core i7-2600 / Sapphire R9 280X Dual-X / 2 x 8 GB DDR3-1600 / Seagate Hybrid SSHD 2 TB / FSP500-60APN 500W / 3x 20" 1600x900 LED / 51" Samsung F5000 plasma / Acer K330 LED projector
15.6" Clevo W650SJ: Intel Core i7-4810MQ / Geforce GTX 850M / 1 x 8 GB DDR3-1600 / Hitachi 1 TB 7200 rpm
14" Lenovo Y460: Intel Core i5-520M / Mobility Radeon HD 5650 / 2 x 4 GB DDR3-1333 / Hitachi 500 GB 5400 rpm

OK the R9 card is good no doubting that, but so is the 780ti, but it all boils down to your rig layout as well!

I don't see the point of 4k monitors, when you are stairing at monitor for a long time (all night) with your face up to it, pixle density won't matter...you are only going to gain the benefits on an 4k tv watching it at the right distance!!

2 good 1080p 140hz monitors is all you need

While I wouldn't be too keen on 4K as is (Am leaning more towards surround and 21:9, honestly), the benefits for content consumption are tangible enough to warrant it.

That being said, R9-290s/290xs WILL be better than 780 tis solely because of the higher vram on the 290s/290xs.
