So I did something that i didn't wanna do and i want to start over! I saw somewhere that there is something in Windows 8.1 where it will do a new clean install of windows without having to formatting and do the other things manually. Where is that? Is there even something like that?

Personally I suggest the following:

- Get a bootable version of "KillDisk" from here: http://www.killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm

- Run the bootable KillDisk off a USB or external device. This will wipe everything!

- Re-Install Windows 8.1 (You can just download a KMS version or torrent a copy) or just call Microsoft and say that you had to re-install windows due to HDD failure or something along those lines and 9/10 they will give you a new install code, if you provide your old one.

The main reason I suggest this as I find that old data, such as viruses and old non-removed data will remain, I think you are confusing a wipe for a new partition.

Let me know how you go.

Do note that software meant to nuke your entire drive should be specific to hard drives or ssds or else you could cause damage. ;p

if i remember you just keep pressing f8 when windows is booting, then select advanced, then make sure you select reset and not refresh

might need someone to double check that because i have given up on windows 8/8.1 because windows 7 is soo much better if you don't have a touch screen.

also one way i do it is boot the windows setup disk and instead of formatting just tell it to install, it will move all your files into a folder called windows.old, its what i do i know theres more convenient ways but that works for me and anyway i have my 1tb drive split into 3 partitions, 1 for windows 1 for backups and another for linux

Make yourself a recovery drive, it allows you to enter safe mode / refresh your pc.  Because you cant enter safe mode like Windows 7 anymore, you have to boot up from a disk.

The option is called Refreshing Windows, just keep in mind it MIGHT fail.  And if it does I cannot help you.
