That PSU is definitely enough for a 290X.. But there I can just see 43 degrees, that's perfectly normal..

asus r9 290x 4gb direct cu 2

Found your problem, i just posted this yesterday.

The new DCU2 cooler was actually design for Kepler GK110 massive die size so when used on smaller size Tahiti/Hawaii core, most of the heatpipes didn't actually touching the die + older AMD GPU die placement was not perpendicular to the heatpipe, most of the die surface area only touching 1 heatpipe.

Asus R9-280x DCU2

Asus GTX780 DCU2 - Heat is well distributed across 3 big heatpipes.

Hell no, that will void the warranty. Go back to the shop and change to better cooler for the Hawaii cards like the Vapor-X/Tri-X/PCS+.

No, what he's saying is apart from the reference cooled 290's, you've bought the worst 290 from all the third party manufactures for cooling.

Asus's 290 and X uses the gtx780 cooler, because asus was too lazy to develop a cooler for it, only 3 of the heat pipes actually touch the gpu.

If the gpu is <15 days of purchase, there is a good chance you can return it.

If you can do it,get the sapphire tri-x.

Since it's new, you probably can change it. What is the max temperature btw? Min temp don't mean much if max temp is good. Try run Unigine Valley a few times and record the max temp.

ASUS DCU2 also have much higher VRM temps.

Tom's Hardware PowerColor PCS+ Review

I would just return it, and get PowerColor PCS+ or Sapphire Tri-X.

well 92 degres is it rly so bad if i just keep it since it is normal to get that hot it wont be my problem if it wil overheat beacuze i usualy play gamez all day....

The 290/X cards run very hot, up to 95C.  Doesn't mean they are going to blow up, but they run hotter than normal.

That card in particular, as everyone else has mentioned, uses the wrong cooler.  If at all possible, return that card and get a different one.

If that is not possible, then those temperatures are normal for that card.

He's talking about the VRM temperature. 92 degrees in 541 seconds/9 minutes of game play benchmark is really bad.

Yes 92 degrees for VRMs are really bad, especially if you play games all day.

If you're going to keep it, you're going to have increase the fan speed to cool it.
