The 270X is the best in its class range.

is it worth paying £30 more for the 280x?

One more powerful card is better than two less powerful cards but anyway a 270X is a very good budget card and your parts are very balanced the only thing I would add is one of the cheap PNY SSDs also make sure you don't get a crap PSU, the CX series from Corsair are great and cheap.

IMO,Yes, you will see a good amount of perfomance boost with the 280X especially if you plan to overclock.

Yeah you would get close performance to a 280 or a 280X, but then you have to think if you got a 280X, then overclocking it would pull way ahead of the 270X.

cant you afford it know or what? crossfire doesnt give you more perfomance. all the amd cards have crossfire anyways.

when would you have the money to get the second card?

Crossfire only benifits some games not all games, it is wiser to get one beefy card then two smaller cards in crossifre.

For an example: I have tri 7950's, in some games i see very little performance in crossfire over one single 7950, and scling on 3 cards is just crap, most games only give the 3rd card a 5FPS increase over the first two cards( I use the 3rd card manly for benchmarking and thats it.), but since the 7950 is a powerful card, i can max every game on the market with just one of them.

but if you dont have two cards it doesnt help you. ok, that makes sense. but the 270 can do crossfire no problemo.
