Can i cut PSU cables?

Can I cut some of the cables off a psu and just keep the molex?

 

I need them for fans

You can just make sure you don't short them out and make sure you leave the power button ones working.

Yes, assuming you want to put the molex on to the fans properly you will need a soldering iron, unless you want to go the old twist and tape method> Just don't short anything out.

I recommend against it, and just get a modular PSU. With a Modular PSU, you can just use the cables you need.
