NCIX had a LAN party a few years ago and Linus went around looking for bad monitors and the person with the worst he smashed with a baseball bat and gave them a new one.

This is practically down the street from where I live. Might have to go check it out, but I have some super-nOOb questions...

 

I've never been to a LAN party or any such event. Could some of you fill me in on some of the ins and outs?

 

-What games do they typically play and do you have to be on a team or can you just join in and play for fun?

-I'm assuming you bring your own PC, monitor etc, but what kind of security or measures are in place (if any) to make sure your equipment isn't tampered with or stolen?
