Budget (including currency): $1000

Country: United States

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: NAS, Plex server, HexOS/UNRAID

Other details : Hey guys! I’m very new to the home server space but not the tech space however I am struggling to find some of the components I’m looking for a home server/media server. I would like to use the Fractal Design Node 804 case but the case features a spot for a “slim” optical drive. I would like to be able to burn my 4k uhd an Blu-ray Discs but I cannot find a “slim” 4k uhd burner drive. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Let me shift the question a little: why do you want to burn "4K" BDs?

While I can't speak to actual video BD authoring (there's probably somebody doing it, but at which point that you have a server, just serve the video files using Plex, etc.), using BDs for backups is wildly more expensive than using HDDs, and is only getting more and more obsolete by the day. (Not that I want BDs to be obsolete, but the market does.)

That said, the Node 804 is a solid first server case; let us know if you have any other questions about it.

...
Fractal Design Node 804

The specs says:

Amazon shows me this as one of the top results:

image.thumb.png.460d51ef3081164eaff2f624c57f4eb1.png

Oh and looking at the back you'll probably need an adapter:

Slimline SATA to SATA dapter:

(7 data + 6 powers pins on the slimline BR, and the desktop standard is 7 pins for data + 15 pins for power)

PS These are typically used in laptops, so try that keyword for search as well.

The only reason to put a drive in the server was a to rip disks to the sever. Only a select few drives can rip 4K disks because you have to flash special firmware to the drive, it doesn’t work on all drives. From what I have seen only a few companies even have drives now days and most of the ones I found are external. You might have better luck on the used market.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

So this one doesn't for example?

Idk wouldn't it be better to give some examples of what drives *can* do it?

... Personally I'm wondering if this would fit in my old Lenovo laptop as I'd really love to rip my PS3/PS4 games, especially City shrouded in shadows, nier automata etc... Sold my PS4 long time ago so I can't play em any more (the pc version of nier is *trash* 😭) but of course that's another question altogether. >.<

I dont know what drives can. I just know only certain drives can rip 4K disks with special firmware.

Also I get an access denied on that link.
