Shipments being split

@Adam Pilolla - How can LTTStore Legally charge to ship 2 shipments when all the Products in one shipping fee were put into the Backpack and then that was shipped in a Single Package.

I believe that you cannot.

If there were truly 2 shipments, aka Box 1 with the 7 items and box 2 with the backpack then yes you can.

But not when all 7 items were placed in the Eighth and then all shipped in one Box/Package.

@LinusTech - this needs to be made right!

Backpacks have a shipping surcharge which applies whether or not your order is broken into two separate shipments. This surcharge applies to each backpack in your order, meaning if you order two backpacks, two shipping fees will apply.

Backpacks must ship on their own due to the way they are packaged. Only rarely is it possible to place additional product inside of that packaging (generally only if all products happen to be very small), which still adds cost as shipping is calculated by using volume & weight. This is why additional fees apply even when we are able to do this. However, if there are no other non-backpack products present (aside from bonus bin items), no additional fees are added.

Looking to order some items and at checkout it is splitting the shipment with what appears that all the smaller items being shipped together while the commuter backpack being shipped by itself.

Is this normal?  I read the shipping FAQ on the store and I couldn't see anything about shipments being split.

That's normal for any business really. Either due to packaging or warehousing reasons. For example, I order motorcycle stuff from Rocky Mountain ATV/MC, they have a warehouse in Utah and one in Kentucky, and it's not uncommon to have an order split between those two warehouses.

I do order picking /packing for a living. Its normal. We have 13 warehouses across the US and its not uncommon for us to cross ship stuff due to availability. Also at least USP will tack on a fee for any box exceeding 49lbs. Another thing each box has a dimensional weight, meaning they charge at least that amount of weight for that box. So if the boxes dimensional weight is greater than 49 lbs that fee would be attached.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

for other business.
yes it is common, this could be down to items coming from different warehouses.

or some items may come from the seller and others may come direct from the supplier.

As far i am aware LTT of use one warehouse and hold on their stock and do not drop ship.
it is possible, that is cheaper to send 2 parcel rather then one.
larger and heavy the parcel, the more cost.
is likely cheaper for them to have one large light parcel and one small heavy parcel.

  • 2 weeks later...

So my order arrived today and all the small items had been placed inside of the commuter backpack and the bag zipped up.  The commuter backpack had been placed inside its plastic shipping sleeve and into its box.

Now I am very confused to the two shipping charges.

At least they actually shipped you everything you ordered. I ordered a desk mat and a screwdriver and I only received the screwdriver. I need the desk mat for the new desk I built, and I can't use it without risking damaging it until I receive the desk pad. The packing slip states "Carton 2/2", but my order page says that there is only one tracking number and that the order has been fully shipped. It would seem they never actually shipped the desk pad.

It took them three days to get around to shipping anything and then they only sent half of what I ordered. I only added the screwdriver because of the sale they had through YouTube last week. Now I regret spending that extra money.

Too bad their customer service is terrible and takes forever to respond. They apparently think that "up to three days" is acceptable. I emailed them yesterday and still haven't heard back. I doubt I'll ever buy anything from them again. This is just terrible customer service compared to what I normally see when buying from similarly sized small businesses that use Shopify. I'm used to being able to speak to a human within a few hours at most.

LTTStore/Creator Warehouse has a warehouse in Canada and one in the US.

If you were charged 2 shipping fees and all the items were only in One Package it would say that they MUST refund you at least one shipping fee.

That is like Dell Silently adding the on-site extended warranty.

Support got back to me with the following.

Quote
Hi there,

We apologize for any confusion caused by seeing multiple shipping fees.

At this time, all backpacks(original and Commuter) are required to have a set, separate shipping fee applied at checkout due to their size. This is billed in addition to the shipping fee for all other products, if ordered alongside a backpack.

We apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused.

So backpacks have a size shipping surcharge.

Not unheard of.

I deal with this at my job. The box will be given a dimensional weight. For example a box thats 14x14x10 might be given a weight of 7lbs. That means you will be charged for at least 7 lbs, unless the boxes physical weight is more. I know with UPS they charge a fee for any box over 49lbs, both psychically or dimensionally. The question I would have is why was it an extra fee vs being just put in to the original shipping charge.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Did you receive 2 different boxes ( i.e. 1 with 7 items and 1 with 1 item) or 1 Box with 8 Items ?

Or simply, you got 2 tracking numbers for your complete order or 1 tracking number ?

I only received the commuter backpack box (1 box).  Inside of the commuter backpack box was the commuter backpack which was inside of its plastic shipping sleeve.  Inside of the commuter backpack all other items of my order had been placed.

So if I Order 10 things and One of then is a Backpack.
2 shipments or 1 shipment?

Let's say everything will fit inside the Backpack.

Since everything will fit inside the backpack and that is how it is processed - One Shipping fee even if a little more than just the backpack - correct?

1 shipment, 2 fees (the backpack surcharge plus shipping on the remaining goods).

Suggestion.

Is it possible to title the shipping cost for the backpack "backpack shipping surcharge" on the checkout page or to add a note to the product page and shipping FAQ explaining it?  I did search the FAQ and product page before posting so it may (or may not) help others understand why they see two shipping fees.
