GPU for 2560x1440p

I recently upgraded my monitor to 1440p and i got a r9 280x (asus model) and im not too happy with the performance im getting. Now that the r9 290/290x have come down in price, would getting a r9 290/x be better? or a 780? I cant afford a 780ti 500 us dollors is around my budget and i cant SLI/crossrire (specs below)

 

i7-4770k (non overclocked, crappy OCer)

asus z97i plus (mini ITX)

r9 280x

8gb of ram

SSD/HDD

Get a 290X. At 1440p it'll perform quite a bit better than the GTX 780. The 512 bit bus should help with that.

I'd say so if you have the money but you'll get a lot more performance out of it

Don't get the 290X, just go with an ASUS R9 290 DCUII http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HWQUI02 and overclock it if you want.

 

The price hike compared to the performance increase from the 290 to the 290X is pointless.

Don't go with the ASUS one. The copper heatsink sucks. Get other brands. Temps are higher in ASUS.

Not a problem with Sapphire's new Vapor-X 290(X). They run really, really cool. Even compared to most 780TI's. You'll be just fine in an ITX. Full load ~ 60C max spikes.

if you see Linus' video about Pre-Star Citizen benchmarks, an overclocked R9 290 and a R9 290x were indentical in performance... certainly go for the R9 290, it isn't worth the extra cash for the R9 290X difference is maybe about 3-5 fps nothing enough to justify the extra cash. hope this helps
