Doesn't exist. This varies quite largely on personal preference, so if you ask 100 Linux nerds this question you'll get 120 different answers.

Usually more up to date distros are better, so something like Arch and its derivatives like Manjaro are pretty good, but there are people happily gaming on Debian (one of the most out of date distros) so don't think it's a necessity.

The best linux distro is a matter of opinion, everyone will give you a different answer. Try some distros and pick the one you like.

If you are using KDE you should be able to enable Disk Automount in settings assuming your distro properly configures polkit, anything mounted in Dolphin will continue to be mounted for your user.

Otherwise you can create a permanent system wide mount using GNOME Disks or KDE Partition Manager which will write it to the fstab.

That doesn't really change anything, It's still a matter of opinion.

The only thing that may have a major impact is your hardware depending on the manufacturer and age.

That hardware should be old enough to work ootb on most distros, if you want the latest drivers then something more upstream may be preferred like Arch or Fedora including Bazzite, do be aware Fedora nukes Codecs on AMD. Flatpak will solve the codec issue however and it will be your package format on bazzite as it's immutable.

But is there a way to make my d drive automount on bazzite? Would bazzite be a good daily driver distro or maybe something else like cachyos mint manjaro be better?

Doing what I said should work fine even on bazzite.
Their own guide uses GNOME Disks, https://docs.bazzite.gg/Advanced/Auto-Mounting_Secondary_Drives/

The KDE Autmount option if it works on bazzite should persist even with updates however as it's user based rather than system wide.

CachyOS uses additional patches and potentially untested optimizations, not saying it's bad but those should be a concern.
Mint should be fine, be aware their Desktop environments use xorg and as such don't properly support mixed refresh rates, color profiles, or fractional scaling. The Desktop Environments provided by Mint are working on Wayland Support however. Try it and see if works. If you want full Wayland support for now you want GNOME or KDE.

Manjaro also nukes codecs on AMD last I knew, If you want a Arch base consider EndeavourOS but do be aware it is still Arch.

Spoiler

My suggestion is, if you want to use Arch or Arch Based Distros, such as EndeavourOS, please read over

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Pacman
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PKGBUILD

Follow Arch news https://archlinux.org/news/
and be aware of what a rolling release distro is.

If you want to use Community packages

and again PKGBUILD

Really just try distros and see how well they work for you. If you like bazzite then use bazzite, if you have problems then reach out to the community, if you come across something you can't solve then maybe consider trying something else.

There isn't a "Best" option. You choose a distro based on what you need to do and personal preference. Firstly you need to check your games / software for Linux support, or how well they are supported under things like WINE.

I personally am partial to Ubuntu. I use Ubuntu on my Plex server. If I build a new machine or if Microsoft royally fucks up Windows Id probably go to Ubuntu, mainly because I like GNOME as well as Im just more familiar with that OS. Though if Valve does release a desktop version of Steam OS Id also consider that.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Debian (one of the most out of date distros) so don't think it's a necessity.

It isn't older than what you get with the Ubuntu LTS derivates (Mint etc.). And using actually tested software in a distro should be the standard, not the exception. Most users want a PC to work, not to create excitement if today's update will bork the system.

You always can backport some things if actually needed. Or use MX Linux (based on Debian), That has the backports already enabled.

If you are someone needing the latest (newer hardware, developer), get a rolling distro and be ready to fix things. There are different use cases.

I always first recommend Fedora with the KDE desktop environment for windows refugees.

If you want a drive to be mounted on boot, you can look up how to edit your fstab or just use gnome disks to do it.

Fedora KDE - 7800X3D - 9070 XT // Thinkpad T14 Gen 1 - AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 4650U // Steam Deck OLED // Nothing Phone 2

Tried a Mac? Honestly, those are great for gaming and content creation - and they are (subjectively) better than Linux.

Write in C.

the best Linux distro is a preference thing, its like saying what is the best food: one guy says its pizza, the other says its mac and cheese. they arent wrong per say, its just what you like. You like customization, try arch with a wm like hyprland (this is me). you have no clue what your doing, try mint, pop. want customization but dont know what your doing, try kde neon or Debian with kde. there are a million different distros and each one is for a separate person. So go find the one thats right for you. (i use arch btw)

Saying a Mac is great for gaming is insane levels of misinformation.

Well...... The whole "you cant game on a Mac" is out dated info.

Directly from the App Store on my Mac. Some of my Steam Library is also available on my Mac. It really depends on what you want to play. Im not saying every game is available for Mac, because it's not, but you can game on a Mac. Much like you can game on Linux now days. Windows has lost its crown.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

There's a large gap between "you can game on it" and "great for gaming."

You can game on a Mac and there are some really good games available, but compared to PC or Playstation or Xbox you also miss out on a lot of major releases. You miss out on some multiplayer games on Linux as well, but outside of that the available library on Linux is still much larger than Mac.

This is entirely due to the advancement of Proton compared to Mac projects like Crossover or Whisky. If Mac got an easy to use highly compatible translation layer they would basically be on par with each other.
