I use chrome on windows 11 pro laptop.  I had ublock origin installed a while back but it no longer works.  I then installed ublock origin lite and used it for a short time but then stopped using it.

It is getting ridiculous with the amount of YouTube ads that are showing up.  The moment I open any YouTube up, it seems like half the time there is an ad at the beginning.  You have to wait a bit before you can click skip.  Then if it's a long video, there would be ads that would show up throughout the video where you have to wait a bit before you can click slip.  So imagine a 20 minute video and it could have at 5 ads or more.  Now if it's a short video like 3 minutes, then there is no ad after the initial ad.

I like to have a playlist of YouTube videos that play music nonstop.  So imagine you have a playlist of 30 YouTube video songs and each song is a few minutes.  After every few videos, there is an ad that you have to wait a bit before you can click skip.  This is ridiculous as I want the music to play nonstop without me having to click on skip everytime.  So imagine you are not near the computer and just want the songs to play nonstop, well this isn't going to happen unless you go and click on skip or you wait like a few minutes for 2 full ads to stop playing.  Then there is the issue of whenever a YouTube video is done, another YouTube ad plays.

When I had ublock origin lite turned on, it either still has these issues... or when you play a video, there is no ad but you still have to wait a bit before the video plays.

Does anyone know what adblocker I can use to prevent these ads?  Is the only way to pay for youtube premium?  This is beyond ridiculous.  Back then when YouTube had ads, it wasn't as bad as this.  There is an ad that plays before the video, during the video a few times if it's a long video, then another one right afterwards.  You can't even have a playlist of YouTube music videos that play nonstop due to this.  Does ad blocker or any other ones work for this?

The reason why I like chrome is it's smooth and because it has those options like whenever you open chrome, all the windows open up the way you want it to.  I believe you can do the same with Firefox right?  What about brave?  One thing I didn't like about brave was I recall using it on Chromebook and when I went to enter a program to download, it seemed like brave showed one of the top results as a fake malware site for a program so that is why I didn't want to use it.

I pay for Premium (best thing ever) but also run Adguard in Chrome. Can try it for YT ads, but I can't relate.

Some Chromebook’s can run Android apps so you can install a different browser, but it might be a mobile browser. The only solution that will work 100% is pay for YouTube Premium.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

So you pay for YouTube premium solely for no ads?   Does anyone here think that is ridiculous just for that reason?  I can't believe you can't play videos without ads nonstop.  So does anyone here use adguard and that works?

Okay so which browser then?  Firefox?  Safari?  Opera?

If you're talking to me, yes? Please remember to use the quote feature. And yes, thats its purpose. No ads ever across any device logged in with your account Small price to pay for not having to deal with them or the headache that is trying to block them. All while still ensuring i'm doing my part and contributing to the creators that put out hours and hours of content for free for me to consume. That and I make heavy use of Youtube Music that's included so I don't have to pay for Spotify.

I don't think this is ridiculous at all. I'm an adult with a career that allows me to pay for small conveniences.

Surely just taking the 60 seconds to add it to Chrome and trying it would be the most effective method for confirming this, yes?

Youtube music allows you to play any song you want from what I googled.  The thing is you could also just manually type in the song to play it or say create a playlist of songs for you to play.  Like say a list of 30 songs you want to play nonstop and play it.  How is YouTube music different from that?  Is it just easier?

Well I can't believe it has gotten to the point that we have to pay to not have ads on YouTube.  I would not have imagined this a while back.  Now if it's during a video, that the person in the video talks about an ad, I get that.  But having more than 5 videos play at least in a 20 minute video just seems ridiculous.  Having an ad play the moment you open a video and after you play it just seems even more ridiculous.  When did YouTube start doing this because it wasn't like this a while back.  I recall playing a playlist of 100 videos nonstop with this a while back.  You can't even do that now with a playlist of a few songs even since it will play an ad after every video or next few video.

Well I am not sure if certain extensions are safe or not.  I know I used adblocker plus on Chromebook for chrome but it doesn't seem to do much for YouTube videos.

I'm using ungoogled Chromium with both uBlock and AdBlock, un-logged-in. And I haven't seen ads much on YT during a video.

But I used to see them at some point, so this might vary also depending on how you get to a video (through search, direct link, by navigating on YT).

Also it might depend on what kind of stuff you're watching, because if you search some obscure music and the links have like 100 views in 10 years, those will never get ads lol.

I never heard of that program.  So that is a version of chrome?    How does it compare to chrome?

I'm talking about music videos on YouTube that has millions of views but these are those old popular songs from way back in the day.  The ads still play before a video starts and after it.  I can't play like 30 songs straight from my playlist without an ad after a video it seems.

Yes, like any other premium streaming music service. Except you don't have to pay additionally for it, its just included with Premium.

Are you unfamiliar with Spotify, Tidal, Apple Music, Amazon Music, etc..? No-ad unlimited play streaming services. You're not going to messing with the YT app to queue up videos while in the car or on a run.

Kinda confused as to what you're confused about.

No one suggested that.

In fact you've been given suggestions for alternative adblockers to try but it doesn't appear you've done so yet.

Your problem is you’re using a chrome book. Windows, Mac or Linux would give you more freedom. Google declared war on ad blockers, so they dont work worth a shit in Chrome. As you indicated in another thread Firefox seemed to be the mobile version, likely due to Chrome OS running Android apps. I’ve never had good luck with ad blockers on mobile.

So your options are 1) use a real OS, 2) pay for YouTube or 3) deal with the ads.

I use Firefox (ublock + Sponsorblock) and Brave browser (ublock + built in adblocker + sponsor block. Disable one adblocker at a time if YouTube starts acting up again). Haven't seen an ad on my PC for ~6 years now.

Don't ever let anyone guilt you into wasting your life and lowering your mental health to watch soulless corpo slop advertising for 3 hours a day.

Are you saying that you don't want to use brave again because it flagged a potentially bad site as bad? Are you sure it was brave, or the search engine you were using? You can use Google search, Duckduckgo, or Brave search within the Brave browser if any of them are having issues.

The issue is Google declared war on Ad Blockers. They actively try to block them on Youtube. Kinda like how Netflix blocks VPN's. Sure some might work for a while but eventually Google will figure out how to block them. Thats the case with Ad Blockers, they might work for a while, Google does something that makes them not work, then you have to wait for them to work again. I use both Ghostery and Ad Guard. Some times they dont work and I have to wait a day or two for them to start working again.

The biggest issue however is due to the changes in Chrome, Google basically screwed all the Ad blockers. As a result you have to use a browser like Brave or a non Chrome browser like Firefox or Safari. Safari is Apple device only, so you have two choices. Due to apps on Chromebooks being thru the Google Play Store, Id imagine those are going to be mobile browsers.

This is why everyone is telling you to pay. Hell Im considering paying for Youtube Premium, you can get it for $140 USD for a year. At a certain point it just get too much to have to keep fighting the ads. Plus Id like to be able to watch on Mobile devices without ads, as there are no ad blockers for the iOS app, at least none that I know of.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

I never heard of sponsorblock.  So Firefox with ublock should work then?  So you have both ublock and sponsor block on at the same time?

The ads on YouTube is ridiculous.  Even I want to play a 3 minute music video, there is almost always an ad it seems at the start of the video.  There is almost certain one after the video is done.  I find that ad after it is even worst.  Then you have ads coming up during a 20 minute video.

The annoying thing is when I play my YouTube playlist of music videos and there is an ad after every 2nd video or so at least.  So imagine I want to play nonstop videos in my playlist that would go on for 3 hours if it keeps playing from one video to another.  I can't do that due to the ads because I have wait and press the skip every 2nd video.  It's just ridiculous YouTube is like this.

I actually think it was duckduckgo and not brave that showed that fake site.

Are Android apps considered mobile? Because you cant just download apps on a Chromebook like you can Windows, Mac or Linux. You have to go thru the Google play store last I read.

Again, Google declared WAR against ad blockers. So that means you cant use Chrome any more due to Manifest V3. You are better off using a non chrome browser. Secondly Google can detect when people use ad blockers, they make the experience crappier as a result or outright figure out how to block the ad blocker (general temporary). You either  A) Play Google's game of whack a mole and bad experiences  Or B) dig deep in to your wallet and pony up for Youtube Premium.

AdGuard beta has worked just fine (manifest v3 compatible) for normal ads, btw. Moved to it about a year and a half ago. Says it blocks Youtube ads, but again haven't tried it. https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/adguard-adblocker-beta/apjcbfpjihpedihablmalmbbhjpklbdf?utm_source=ext_app_menu

🤷‍♂️OP is causing a whole scene but if only they'd simply try something instead of continually complaining about how "ridiculous" everything is. Its beginning to look like they're just enjoying the drama.

This is what people have been talking about. I have used Ad Blocker Plus + uBlock. Ive moved to Ad Guard + Ghostery due to the first combo stop working. Manifest V3 limits how effective Ad Blockers can be, which uBlock Lite came to be because of all this, but not as effective as the regular uBlock. Thats why people are leaving Chrome.
