Can someone please explain to me why there is a huge contrast between how leakers find stuff about iPhones versus Android smartphones?

It's weird seeing iPhone leakers get exited over extremely minor changes, even making a ten minute video about the COLOR of a future model..... Like, what? In my opinion iPhone rumors have gotten super boring a short few years after Steve Jobs died.

Android rumors on the other hand are debating refresh rates, types of SoC's (Snapdragon, Exynos, Tensor, etc.), OLED screens, and even down to the composition of the battery.

Steve Jobs died in 2011. There have been plenty of iPhone evolutionary changes since his death.

From iPhone 1 to iPhone 4s, IMO the only 2 big changes were the flat design and Retina display.

NGL, I have literally never read or seen an Android rumor article before.

But discussing SoC's, refresh rates, and OLED screens seems.. totally unnecessary?

Top end SoCs are only slightly better than previous year. Refresh rates have been 120Hz for a long time - what is there to discuss??? And I cannot remember the last time there was an OLED screen improvement beyond just "It's 1000 nits! 2000 nits! 3000 nits!" Although I've heard great things about the newest Samsung anti-reflective coatings.

2 days ago I've decided to check rumours on iPhone 17.

Out of 7 points in the video 3 points were about phone cases, magnets and screen protector. That's even more boring than to look at HW specs.

Smartphone design has normalized since then. Rumor mill isn't going to turn crazy design ideas, because everyone knows that Apple isn't going to produce a crazy design in the year of our lord 2025.

iPhone rumors typically generate more clicks and views due to Apple's status and broader appeal — a YouTuber who needs to pay the rent will have a much better chance of it by covering new iPhone 17 Pro colors than the spec sheets of upcoming Android phones.

Consider this: while Android clearly leads overall market share, the most popular individual models are iPhones. And out of the Android phones in that top 10 list I shared, all but one (the S25 Ultra) are budget devices. And it's safe to say someone buying a Galaxy A16 or Redmi 14C isn't a hardcore tech fan.

We have to remember that what's interesting to enthusiasts doesn't often translate to the mainstream. You may care intensely about SoC performance and silicon carbon batteries, but most people don't even know what technology is out there, let alone care enough about it to read or watch in-depth discussions. They ask broad-strokes questions like "what will the iPhone 17 look like?" or "what does the new Galaxy phone do?" And interest falls sharply once you get into lower-cost phones or any brand that isn't Apple, Samsung, and maybe Google.

I'd add that Apple keeps a tighter lid on its news than some brands and waits until it's near shipping (with exceptions for products that would be "pre-announced" by filings, like the Apple Watch). Compare that to Samsung, which teased the Galaxy S25 Edge months before it shipped — it's hard to get excited over leaks for a product that has already been half-revealed.
