Can someone please tell me why I got this wrong? (Maths)

MrTomnus

I have my maths mechanics exam tomorrow, and I've been doing some practice questions. I swear I did this one properly but I can't figure out what I did wrong... I bet it's something stupid like a negative error that I can't find.

Can anyone help? Here's the question, answer and my working:

EDIT: Solved.

Never mind, I found it... It was a negative error on the fourth line :/ ugh, I would have lost four marks for that in the exam...

Ugh Trigo....

Yeah, trig can be so confusing sometimes :(

Math? Dude this is the stuff I do in physics...

Really? Fair enough. There is a small bit of physics in mechanics like moments and impulse, but I don't learn things like inclined plane or centre of mass in physics.

It's not that bad, honestly. Once you learn the concepts, you are able to apply knowledge very easily. What I have trouble with is trying to do the simple things (like getting signs right) when I'm concentrating on the difficult things like differentiating and integrating things like ln(x) and e^x. That where I lose my marks, and it sucks, because I know I can do all of it, but I don't have as much time in the exam to go through and check everything again :(

I've got my additional maths FSMQ exam tomorrow, I'm finding that quite challenging. Next year it's physics, maths with mechanics, chemistry and music tech for A level. Tbh Music tech is the only one I'm looking forward to.

Well good luck with it! The FSMQ will really help you in A level. I wish I had the option to do it... Sounds like a nice mix, but that's a lot of maths you'll be doing! Instead of chemistry, I picked biology because it's less about equations and more about how things work, which is cool. What I didn't anticipate was that you had to remember how EVERYTHING works in the exams :(

Maths is my last exam this year so I am pretty relieved about that. Next year will be turmoil though lol

Really?

I studied that at Physics not Maths.

This is very easy compared to what I had to solve a year ago at a contest. They gave us grade 12 problems, even though we were only in the 7th grade. The biggest score/mark/whatever was 2.5 out of 32. (4 problems worth 8 points each).I got 2 points back then.

Oh god, this is similar to my physics exam that I've got on Monday. And I do mechanics in maths next year (if I carry it on, you may have just made my mind up). Good luck for your exam tomorrow.
