144Hz Vs G-Sync

ATLASINCARNATE

What's up guys, so recently I've been reading some articles and watching presentations on Nvidias new G-sync, and it looks pretty awesome I'm really excited for it. But I've also been seeing a lot of people saying that it's kind of pointless to have G-sync if your monitor has a 120Hz/144Hz refresh rate. Is this true? Let me know what you guys think. Oh, and one more thing, if Freesync does what it's supposed to do with monitors, not laptops, like we have seen in AMDs presentation, because laptops have a more direct connection between the GPU and the display than desktop monitors do, should I just get a 144Hz monitor with freesync? Or is all this G-sync, freesync, technology pointless because 144hz is already buttery smooth. Let me know.

Thanks

Well 144hz is kind of pointless unless you are getting above 60 fps, and g-sync can really help your frame rates. So as a person with a low end build i would go with g-sync.

I run my own indie game company called Color Dragon Studios where we are currently making a 2d platformer game called Small Earth.

Kind of an odd thing to say...since G Sync is much more expensive, and requires a decent video card.

It's not really a "budget" technology.

Yeah, that made no sense @the ginger gamer ... G-Sync is MUCH more expensive than 144Hz panels.. For the far foreseeable future, if I might add.

Yea it's pointless other than the massive reduction in input lag and tearing.

Doesn't that Asus monitor come at 144hz WITH G-sync? If that is the case...

haha ya sorry i didn't think that through all thought if the price comes down then it might become good for lower end builds.
