Hello guys,

My Pc is having problems connecting to ethernet. When I plug a cable into my pc from the router the speeds are worse than what they are on WIFI and my ping becomes terrible. Do you think I should buy a new network card and test if that is the issue?

Have you installed the correct LAN drivers for your motherboard?

Rule out your infrastructure as the problem before buying a NIC. Otherwise you're just throwing parts and money at the problem hoping it goes away.

Do you have another known working computer you can try connecting to that network cable? Or can you temporarily bring your PC close to the switch or router so you can connect it with a short patch cable that you know is good? Are you connected through a 100 meg Fast Ethernet switch along the way, or a 10/100 port on the other end?

What motherboard do you have, and what model switch or router are you connecting to?

I just installed them to make sure, should I do a pc reset?

Reboot sure, but you don't need to factory reset Windows for this.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

My go to is always to boot into Linux and see how things work to eliminate the OS. You can download Something like Linux Mint, and boot it from a USB. See how the network works from there.

I have good download speed and it lets me play some games online but on YouTube it buffers all the time and wont let me stream any content

Turn off any content filtering extension like ad blockers and reload. Try another browser.

Start by doing a speed test when on wifi and then again when on wire. Share the results.

The download speed is not the problem. YouTube just does not work, I can not play some games, other streaming services do not work. I read about the colours on the port mean something and mine are the top is solid orange and the bottom is consistently blinking orange

You didn't install any "Lan Optimization" or "Lan Priority" type software did you?

Your port is linked at gigabit speeds though, everything is good there speed wise.

Did you touch the router settings? Do you live in a restricted network? And did you try the same things on different devices?

have not touched anything, do not have a restricted network, and unfortunately I do not have any other devices to test.

I have tried 3 different cables and even taken my PC close to the router but nothing has changed

Have you tried to reset all network settings at once?
Under the network setting -> advanced -> network reset

I just did that, tested it and nothing changed

windows says that there may be low connection quality , so that has confused me even more

So just to be sure, speeds aren't an issue, but youtube doesn't load (you have ad blockers?) games and streaming services dont work (do you have vpns?) but overall is good?

speeds are fine, YT buffers even at 144p, some games work but server based games do not

tried it on different web browsers, turned off ad blockers, no VPN. Even pictures take a while to load for example on discord and amazon

To be honest, before paying for a card do a reset, but from a usb stick windows installation, not from the windows recovery itself.

Check if all the network hardware is in good condition and seated properly, then go with the reset. If even like this with fresh new install and no software you have issues, consider replacing the card. Even if a test with an external device would be very helpful
