My 3080 ti is recently giving me an issue where the the screen goes black and i have to force restart it and it'll work and probably happens maybe a few times a day. When the screen goes black, video sounds can still be heard, pressing my shift keys prompted the sticky key notification sound and the only way is to restart the pc. I've updated my drivers just have not tried a clean windows install. what are the chances that my gpu is close to dying? would appreciate any form of help.

I have the same issue with my 3080 Ti. It's been going on for half a year. Happens like 1-2 times a month. Not sure if my PC is unstable somehow or drivers are wacked... Anyhow, I've kinda learned to live with it. But having it happen multiple times in 1 day is a lot...

You should probably try DDU 🙂

start by DDU to uninstall your drivers then reinstall them. does your cpu have integrated graphics? if so does it happen when using it? you could also try turning off the igpu in bios if your cpu does have one.

if ddu doesn't work you can check event viewer for errors

Ok I should probably add that I’ve been trying to play clair obscur and that when the black screen happens the most often. I had this issue when playing league a few months back. But I thought it was some driver issues. Updated my drivers and it didn’t happen until 2 days ago.

Try running some benchmarks to see how much power the card is consuming, it could be power spiking which is causing the issues and if so you should be able to do some tuning and fix it, also try re-seating the card make sure no dust is in the slot, hopefully it's just something simple as that

Well in theory it's not (GPU) drivers as I didn't have any crashes with a 5800x3d and 3070 in like over 2 years (except when I very apparently crashed it using some mods, which we obviously shouldn't count)

Not even with my new 5070... No crashes, black screens etc(although it does feel the drivers are a bit un.... finished? For example Nvidia video color settings are definitely bugged, and like 2 months ago I actually had a "Nvidia driver crash" ... But it was just annoying, the PC didn't crash and since installing different drivers it didn't happen again)

Yeah, sorry, I know that's a very long winded way to say "it's probably not drivers" (at least not in general)

I'd recommend driver 566.36 (maybe even studio drivers around that version) to see if that does something, because at least "some" newer Nvidia drivers are definitely cursed lol.

To answer all the questions. I’ve ran furmark for about 30mins without it crashing. Temps are good too at about 70-73 degrees. Even after a ddu running the game for 10mins causes the black screen to occur. So I thought maybe my card has just degraded? Downloaded afterburner and pulled down the memory by 100 and it seems fine played the game for over an hour and no crash seems to appear. But I’ll have to test it more to be sure.

Do you have a local computershop nearby that can test each piece of hardware? Maybe this is the next step. Unless you have full warranty on the system.

  • 3 weeks later...

ok i thought it was solved after a ddu but it was not. I think i found out the issue but not sure if its fixable. I've always been playing around llms with my macbook and it just lead me down a rabbithole of all the ai stuff. I tried running a few like stable diffusion or framepack and they have always caused my pc to just black screen. I think it may be a vram issue but i'm not sure anyone else having issues like this?
