Hi, I am sure this seems like a stupid question but I just want to make 100% sure before I buy. I have a ASROCK B250 PRO4 S1151 ATX motherboard and I am wanting to upgrade to a NVMe ssd. I can see from the pictures of the board that there is a m.2 slot just under the cpu socket. But I think the m.2 slots can be used for other things apart from NVMe and (from what I heard) they dont all support ssd's. So does anyone know if I will be able to put a NVMe ssd in here?

You only lose a max 2 SATA ports and a PCI-E slot, from what I can see, but you have 6 ports to choose from.

OK thanks. I have 3 other drives in the computer, so i guess if one stops working after I put in the NVMe I can just change the port.

Thanks for all the help 🤗

Yup!

Not recommended to buy a SATA based M.2 drive, by the way. They're rare and many modern boards/chipsets have dropped support, which might make it hard to take with you in the future.

Oh ok, I did not know that 🤔. Well I have had another look at a few of the NVMe's I was looking at, and I think this one should be fine then? I dont believe it is SATA based? Like I said, no very savvy lol.

Correct, that drive is PCI-Express (gen 4), not SATA.

Crucial used to have a rule that if you buy something from their checker and it doesn't work, they would refund you (I mean, no quibble), but not sure if they still have this policy.

Excellent, thanks a lot for all the help. And I will definitely look into that policy. Thanks again 🤗
