You need a dedicated graphics card first of all.

Also depends on what is defined as "playable" performance for you.

To play games after 2012, it depends which ones are we talking about, what are we trying to run.

 

Games after 2012 is very vague, games released in 2025 are also "games released after 2012".

 

These are requirements for Far Cry 5 for example:

 

So for Far Cry 5, dedicated GPU would be great boost, before buying GPU though you need PSU that supports the GPU's power draw.

Do you have this system already? If not I'd advise you to give us a budget for the system you want to build and the peeps here can put some build lists together for you.

 

Being able to play games from after 2012 is pretty vague. And getting a system with the bare minimum hardware is always a bad idea especially one as dated as this.

No it won't play those at all. You have too little ram, gpu is beyond incredibly weak and your cpu is quite low end even for these games. 4 will run alright with the cpu if you have more ram and a decent gpu but 5 will run badly.

 

Is this a pc you already have? If so just save up to replace it it's 14 years old and spending money on it is just wasting money.

This PC is practically ancient, even my work PC at the office beats it with an i5-4460, 8GB DDR3 and a retrofitted 500GB SSD.

 

For a budget modern gaming build, get a Ryzen 5 3600, 16GB RAM, and a used last gen GPU like the RX6600 or RTX 3060. (Anything newer might be too expensive.). You can try copying the build in my signature, but replace the 4060ti with something cheaper, unless you can afford it.
