I can't even begin to tell you how dramatic the difference in build quality between one of these and something like an Ergotron is. $100 for a MX is well worth it over something like this if you ever move your monitor, if it sits in one spot all the time, stick with one of these.

 

With my Ergotron I can grab the bezel of my 27" monitor between two fingers and move it anywhere I want in seconds within about a 3 foot diameter no problem, without adjusting screws.

 

As for why people pay $400 for a really fancy single monitor mount I dunno... but the Ergotron's are well worth their price, Monoprice.com can't even clone them for less money.

Personally I switch computer chairs like twice a month, and I like to move the monitor to eye level, so I'd pretty much die if I didn't have one.

Of course I bought mine for $125 last summer

Saves desk space, cables are easier to hide, and the height adjustment makes it more comfortable when working.
