I'm looking for some recommendations for a robot vacuum, i've been looking around and didn't realise how many different brands there were now. My house has mainly carpet and only a small area with tiles for the kitchen and dining area. By the looks of it most of them have mopping capabilities now which would be a bonus but not absolutely necessary. I would ideally like one with a self emptying station though.

I have the Shark AV2501AE (current $500 USD price is likely due to the fact that it's an old model) and I've used it for over a year now.

Any robot vaccum / moper doesnt mean no cleaning floors for its entire service life. It just means that you dont have to clean your floors manually as often. That said, "Bruce" has been terrific once you adjust to keeping your floors clean enough (not leaving random objects on the floor that "he" may inadvertently run over).

My Criteria when shopping for a robot vacuum:

  • Price: This was about $300 on a black friday deal in 2023
  • LIDAR navigation: this maps out your home and can systematically clean instead of bumping around aimlessly.
  • Large emptying station; having a vacuum robot is great until it's full and you have to empty it (especially if you run it every day like I do). The self emptying station means i can go a week or two without even thinking about if it's full or not.
  • In-App management and scheduling: It runs when you want, where you want.

Note: I have mainly solid floors (mix of laminated wood and tile) with rugs across much of the hardwood sections, as well as two cats. "Bruce" has had no problems across any of the surfaces or hair build up (but you do have to remember to service / clean him)
