what type of HDDs should I use for my non speed needs?

Unclescar

I'm not really interested in a RAID array as it won't really give me a benefit in performance.

I've got a large SSD (1tb samsung 840 evo) for OS/games/software with room for more programs in the future. but other than that, I don't know much about HDDs and why some are better for certain things than others, but I do know that its not worth selling my organs for the amount of SSD space I'd need if I went without HDDs. The performance benefit of only using SSDs hardly exists, let alone is enough to make me sell my insides.

My computer is doubling as a workstation and media server.

I'll have tons of uncompressed audio and video files, and lots of movies and music as well. sounds the same but the audio and video files are for editing, the movies and music are for watching/listening. :P just in case that sounded like the same thing.

I'd like to keep my work on a separate drive than entertainment, with the work drive constantly being written and rewritten and rewritten with large files multiple times a day, and the media storage written occasionally, read often, but rarely erased.

I've got a Corsair 900D, so I've got plenty of drive slots, and power, and I do have extra PCI-e slots so I'm not worried about lack of Sata either.

I'm not interested in price/performance, though I don't want to spend tons of extra money on unnoticeably better drives if I'm not benefiting from their premium features.

I just want large amounts of reliable space. What do you recommend?

Seagate Barracudas are cheap and reliable. If you want some thing more silent and less power hungry get WD Greens.

Well, you want a reliable drive of course. Storing all that media. I would look at WD Red drives. Very well priced, designed for data storage and an excellent warranty. Also, the new controller on them is a good tradeoff of performance versus power savings.

WD Reds are the server grade offerings from western digital. They're said to be very reliable, although not the fastest ones. I have no personal experiences with them but Linus swears on them, so I'd go for those.

Edit: And I should really pay more attention to what's posted previously! So +1 to whaler_99
